The Mavin Gaye sample in the background was just perfect on that song.
Willie D is ing nuts. I used to live in Houston and heard him get kicked out of the studio on 97.9 The Box when they were interviewing the Geto Boys. They asked them about their dream cars since it tied in with some promotion, so Scarface and Bushwick were talking about decked out Ferraris and Jeeps and . Then Willie D wouldn't shut the up about how he wanted a bunch of machine guns and on his car that would pop out and spray anyone who tried to steal it. The host of the show said that was kind of extreme and Willie D had a fit and started going off on this long rant about how he'd put a bullet in any who touched his car.
Willie D's best solo work was Rodney K when he said he wished the cops had shot Rodney King dead.
Still, funniest I ever heard on 97.9 The Box was a commerical Scarface did for a bail bonds company. Picture the begginng of Mr. Scarface when he's singing, except this time the words were something like
Mr Mr Scarface cruising down the block
Cop pulls me over and then he finds my glock
Got out central booking and called the Bail Kings
And Mr Mr Scarface cruised down the block again
Wonder what Scarface's mother thought of this video?
How dare you speak ill of Humpty!
Rob Base disagrees.
I like Slam dunks take me to the hoop
My favorite play is the alley oop
I like the pick-and-roll, I like the give-and-go,
Cause it's Basketball
a lot of people think every rapper has to have some double entendre and mindblowing lyrics when that isn't the case.
there are various lanes in hip hop.
if you a lyrical rapper cool, if you a good story teller cool, if you can get the club hype cool.
that's what i love about hip hop. i can listen to jay z then turn around and get ratchet to waka flocka and gucci mane.
for myself i like lyrical rappers but not them s who be rapping about hidden pyramids and ancient artifacts.
i prefer a mix of beat selection+flow+delivery+lyrics.
This. Rappers like Jedi Mind Tricks and Atmosphere are in horrible.
What is this? I don't even...
They're underground rappers who suburban white kids who grew up well off (so basically me and people I went to high school with except I always thought it was horrible) listened to because they think it makes them sound cool.
"Hai guise have you heard that song from Immortal Technique about the kid raping his mother? It's so sick!"
Agreed..
Every other rap fan I know is an elitist that listens to underground that talks about the same in every song(which is their accusation against mainstream rap, ironically)..they invite me to shows all the time, but I wouldn't be able to handle the presence of the music elitists around me, tbh..
I actually don't mind Jedi Mind Tricks, but Immortal Technique is the most overrated rapper of all-time IMO..he's boring as , his beats are lame, his songs are repe ive and he's an elitist..

Yeah I refer to them as hipster rap fans. They listen to garbage that they think is good because no one else listens to it.
I don't like the "I'm Different" type of hip hop sound they be blasting on the radio. I hate it. I don't just change the station, I turn my radio off.
The song in the OP is absolutely terrible. How can anybody like this ?
For the most part I agree about hipster hiphop, but Kool Keith's Dr. Octagon album is the exception. That 's classic since Keith is such a talented lyricist (loved his more mainstream with Ultramagnetic too).
Never actually heard of the guy, so I just did some YouTube'n, and listened to "Livin' Astro."
Good , actually.
Deltron 3030 is probably the best abstract hip hop album.
Some hipster rap is pretty good. I like MF Doom and Aesop Rock. But for the most part hipster rap is a y circle jerk of average rappers who think they're gods for rhyming words like paleontology even if it's completely irrelevant to the point of the song.
Whoops, I forgot about Madvillainy. I change my answer to that.
The Medina is still making money. Using "Jamie's Cryin'" pulled in all the VH girls to the tune, they'd already accepted it so they didn't instantly run away from it.
lol Humpty was funny, don't think it was meant to be anything but. "You say he just a friend". That had great lyrics... like made up on the spot at the studio.
Every time I started that game I swear they were saying "We're playing basketball... without that basketball". Thought it was written by the rest of the Lakers.
According to Rap Genius it's a Johnny Football reference, more specifically this picture
