my personal finances > intangible sense of pride from coming out with the right outcome to a scenario you can't control

this. i blew 500 the past weekend and i'm already a cheap/poor slob. even in Vegas i rarely gamble more than $50 at a time.

i'll give DD credit, all my emo jokes aside, I think if he loses he'll pay up and not welsh.

Wow, make the playoffs...such a high standard. While I have confidence in the Spurs. I don't have the same confidence in the Rockets, Blazers, and Dallas. I totally understand though. Some people don't have that kind of jack to spread around. Nothing to be ashamed of. I hope losing the $500 to Jester doesn't cramp your lifestyle too much (assuming you actually pay). Honestly, I'm the one who took the bet with him and I don't think any of this is necessary. I feel like you guys are way too cynical here. Is it because he's a Lakers fan? I don't understand the cynicism here...

DeadlyDynasty made a bet. I accepted. That's that. It's done. I have full confidence that the bet will be honored both ways (whether the Spurs win or whether the Lakers win, assuming they actually meet in the playoffs). Two people have vouched for him (DPG is timvp's nephew, IIRC, and I trust timvp so there's no reason to doubt DeadlyDynasty when DPG has vouched for him), and that's good enough for me.

And by the way, if you think about it DeadlyDynasty is also taking just as much of a risk as I am. Maybe I'm the one who will welch (Note: I won't. I always honor my bets). There's no guarantee here. I think it's interesting that everyone kind of assumes that DeadlyDynasty is the only one of this betting pair (DD/myself) who's liable to welch.

If anything, he's probably taking more of a risk than I am. There are two people who have vouched for him in prior bets. I, on the other hand, have never made such a bet on spurstalk and therefore there's no precedence in my case.

Edit: Well, it seems like you were talking about the possibility of DD taking "a few more" bets with other ST members. If this is the case, then I guess my post isn't entirely applicable, but the general point still stands. I think the cynicism is unwarranted when a respected member of our community (DPG) has already vouched for him.

If anyone here knows about welshing it's me . I am the only one that has really been burned by it (twice to the tune of 1K). I have paid when I lost and DD has done the same. There is definite reason to be skeptical, especially since I have been burned, but at this point nothing DD has done should lead to anyone doubting him. He's paid me at least three time (lol DD) and one of those was $500.

Oh and jestersmash - I am timvp 's nephew more in the sense of he wants to adopt me, not actually his nephew But your point still remains and I obviously post here regularly.
