Spurs finally have their own versions of Clubberlang and Ivan Drago.
I do see the similarities- About the right height proportions.......
Id dont get the hate for a bloke who has play approx 42 Seconds of basketball, no matter how shonky it was.
The hate on ST rarely is causally connected to anything in objective reality. Instead, it comes from within the withered hearts of the many basement dwellers on this forum.
I'm glad his first NBA minute lead to a TO and nothing more. Thats better than an couple hand fed dunks IMO. Make him work as hard as possible to keep improving. It's kind of like that game early in Splitters rookie season, where he fell trying to dunk as time was running out. Even though the game was over. Dumb move. Get over it. Grow up!
Can someone please translate?
Baynes per40
0pts 0a 0r 0s 0b 57TO +/- -457
Small sample size is small.
It's even funnier in terms of PER:
I was looking at the WS/48 for the Spurs' backup PGs (.100 is an average player, .200 is a star, .300 is usually an MVP candidate) and I saw -1.427 for Baynes. Then the wtf factor increased when I saw his PER. I just had to save the image for progeny. That +/- number is great, though, and not on this chart.
I'm actually somewhat surprised at his DRtg. I thought it would've been like 300 given that meltdown.
After today's game you look like an idiot...
apparently you aren't familiar with the poster you quoted..
Meh. He could still be right. One game against Charlotte in January... doesn't count for much.
However, aside from some jitters, Baynes passes the eye test at least. He looks NBA ready.
I would be more shocked if he looked smart at some point. I've heard him described as the village idiot on more than one occasion.
Man I seen this dude in person at the Mavs gm an I was like dam baby, that's a hig ass white boy! He's gone be a terror man.
I'll take 7 pts, 9 rebs, 1 block in 18 minutes from a reserve any given night.
I don't really care what his stat line is though honestly, I just wanted to see him get some actual run to see if he had that "presence." You can kind of tell who belongs in the league and who is just a scrub by the way they carry themselves, the way they handle contact, whether or not they fight for rebounds or shy away from the scrum.
Baynes looks like a player. He certainly has the NBA body, he certainly isn't afraid to battle for (or, in his case, commander the boards), and his first NBA points came from one of the more authoritative dunks I've seen from a Spurs big in quite some time. The camera angle was weird on the broadcast, but replays of that Mills alley-oop pass showed Baynes actually throwing the ball through the hoop more like a dunk than a tip-in. If he 6 inches closer to the rim on that one he'd be on SportsCenter and "#AussieGriffin" would be trending on twitter.
Overall, he was impressive, if for no other reason than because he looked like he belonged. He got caught on some moving screens and made some turnovers, but those mental errors can and will be reduced once gets used to the NBA style of play, just like NBA players excel more in the Olympics after they get a little experience in international play. I'd give him a B - B+, given the low bar for a mid-season rookie's first game, but also the quality of the compe ion he was facing. If he racks up that stat line against the Dwight Howards of the league, this dude will be another certifiable diamond in the rough.
i agree, he had a good game for his first real playing time. Hopefully he will be ready for the long road trip and playing better compe ion.
Not sure why. I'm just a bit disappointed that Baynes is listed at 6'10". Having 7'0" or at least 6'11" would be nice haha
Well he does wear #16 so 6'10 is good for him.
