California Governor Jerry Brown may boast about his efforts to keep California solvent, but the budget problems of the state are severe enough that there is no money to track down roughly 20,000 convicts and mentally ill citizens to confiscate their 39,000 firearms.
Stephen Lindley, chief of the Bureau of Firearms for the state Department of Justice, said that the names in the state's Armed Prohibited Persons database won’t do any good because there simply isn’t enough money to hire forces to find them; it would cost $25 million and take three years. The felons and mentally ill people who own the guns usually buy the guns before they are on record with the database.

Democratic Sens. Mark Leno of San Francisco and President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg of Sacramento have a way past the problem; they are sponsoring a bill that would take the funds collected from gun buyers’ background checks, $20 million, and apply it to tracking down the felons’ and mentally ill people’s guns.

Jerry Brown wants to dump billions into that high speed train zipping through 29 palms and can't afford to confiscate guns from felons and the mentally ill. I knew I loved living in the ed up liberal state for a reason.

the high-speed train was done before he was governor

how do 20K felons and mentally ill, aka Bad Guys, obtain 39K weapons?

gun regulations, when they exist, are unenforced and/or ignored, just as gun industry, NRA, and maranic gun-fellators desire.

CA is so messed up…Exorbitant non funded pensions for state workers… (Retire in 20 years with 90% salary? WTF)…Liberals wanting programs with no funds to support them…Diane Feinstein’s armed guards with fully automatic Uzis but she wants to take away hand guns from the tax payers… Roads in disarray. LA City council wants home owners to pay for street repairs from 80 year old trees tearing up roads & sidewalks which home owners were forbidden to cut down or trim for 80 years…Film industry can shoot for ½ the cost in Canada than they can in Burbank or LA due to tax breaks…It costs 4k in State taxes & DMV fees to buy a new American car…

    Wrong.

how do 20K felons and mentally ill, aka Bad Guys, obtain 39K weapons?
Guess I couldn't expect a who posts an article from over 2 years ago to actually read this one and see for himself. They obtained the guns before they became felons or were deemed mentally ill.

gun regulations, when they exist, are unenforced and/or ignored, just as gun industry, NRA, and maranic gun-fellators desire.
Yet you push for more regulations that will go unenforced? That makes sense.

    Interesting.

How do they know that 39k have weapons they shouldn't have, or is the number just pulled out of a hat?

Could be, but I even wonder about the legitimacy of the article since it doesn't say.

Oh no. We can't blame the source. What do we do?
