Yep he blew it, no other way around it. That fade he threw was about 5 yds out of bounds, damn terrible.
I agree. Let Kruger go and draft a pass-rusher to spell Upshaw in passing situations. I wish Mosley had come out. He'd have been a great pick. I'd like the Ravens to go to a 4-3 next year. Now that they don't have to account for Lewis' lost steps, they can focus on their line play. Drafting someone to help Ngata may be better than taking a linebacker.
I think the Ravens are going to keep Reed. The owner loves him, and he said he wants to give him a Lewis-type contract (a really long-term deal with the bonus money spread out). Do you think Belichick would give Reed a huge contract, like a $6-7 Million/year deal?

The reasoning behind the rumor is Belichick realizing he needs to bring in a veteran safety who can be a leader in the secondary and has a reputation that scares other teams a la when he brought Rodney Harrison in. The cap situation isn't as favorable for New England this off season as it normally is, but I think the team is gonna start taking a much more short term approach to maximize Brady's remaining 2-4 good years, so I really don't know. It depends on how much resigning Talib, Welker, Vollmer, etc., costs, but a real outside receiving threat and a veteran safety are the two biggest needs, and Reed is the only real proven veteran safety out there, so Belichick might surprise Reed with an offer for 6-7mil per.
Belichick I think figured out, albeit way too late, he's been taking a way too passive methodical approach at rebuilding the defense from the superbowl years by just throwing a bunch of talent at the wall and hoping some of it sticks while letting some of it fall into the hands of other teams (Meriweather, Butler, etc.). Trading for Talib midseason and signing Armstead immediately after losing to Baltimore tells me he's gonna start being much more proactive at getting the defense where it needs to be.

Exciting Super Bowl.
Crappy commercials.

If he would've thrown a catchable ball it's quite likely that an illegal contact or DPI flag gets thrown. He airmailed it though. He overthrew a wide-open receiver (in the endzone) on their first redzone drive too.
That reminds of the Dallas rumors surrounding Lewis during his free agency in 2008. The Cowboys wanted a veteran leader for their front seven, and there were reports that Lewis confided in Ware that he had always dreamed of being a Cowboy. It turned out that despite the interest, Dallas lowballed Lewis, who took Baltimore's seven-year retirement deal, and signed Keith Brooking instead. That uncertainty cost the Ravens Bart Scott (no big loss in retrospect) and Jason Brown (who flunked out in St. Louis, but who definitely would have been better than Birk).
We'll see what happens, I guess. I think the Patriots could get him if they offer him an insane amount of money, but I could see that move backfiring. I don't know if Pats fans truly appreciate Ed's limitations. In many ways, he was just as much of a liability as Lewis was this season.
Meh...not happy. I respect Ray Lewis as a football player, but not as a man. I am happy for guys like Ed Reed and Ray Rice though. I just wanted the 9ers to take it, oh well....
That last safety gave me a wrong way square, winning me $100..thank you Baltimore.
What would you say his limitations are? I mainly want him for leadership purposes in the secondary and because regardless of his limitations, QBs still fear throwing to his side of the field, so for his intangibles just as much as for the player he still is. McCourty is a good safety but he's not a leader. Wilfork is the only real guy on the defense who younger players have to look up to. There is no balance between youth and veteran leadership at linebacker or in the secondary. It's all just a bunch of talented young guys who end up looking like .
A big issue with Reed is that he's not a regular-season player. Because of his injuries, he only wraps up when it really matters. So he often gives up big plays by missing tackles. He's also a gambler, which is great when he gets picks and all, but he often leaves is corners out to dry as a result. If Pats fans are worried about their corners, Reed may make the situation worse. Belichick can perhaps make Reed play his assignment, but then Ed wouldn't really be worth the contract. Most importantly, he is an injury time bomb. I can't tell you how many times this season I saw Reed writhing on the ground after he made a tackle or fell awkwardly. He is seriously one seemingly routine hit from retirement. Now that he finally has a ring, he may be even more likely to have a, "This just isn't worth it anymore," moment. He already goes back in forth on retirement enough to make even Favre blush.
He's just a really big risk. I think he has more value to the Ravens than he could possibly have to the Patriots, and if Baltimore thinks he's not worth it, it should be a huge red flag to other teams. Within the team circle, Reed is just as important as Lewis was.
That being said, there's no question Reed is a great mentor. He's one of the biggest reasons why Webb has developed the way he has. He'd make an awesome tutor for McCourty and the rest, so long as they're smart kids who are willing to put in the time to learn. If they're like Talib, though, even Reed can't help them.
This is a great article on Reed if anyone cares to understand him a little better: http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2012...ng-plain-sight
If the Ravens would've lost Bernard Pollard would've been the goat--he was TERRIBLE tonight.
Congrats on the win Chinook
