Oh, and he's before my time but the one correct answer to this question has to be Alfredrick Hughes. The Spurs picked him in the first round of the 1985 draft that was loaded with studs. He flamed out after one season; it doesn't look like he ever played anywhere again. The previous pick was Karl Malone. Subsequent picks include Joe Dumars, Terry Porter, AC Green, Ty Corbin, Arvydas Sabonis and a number of others who made it.
LOL, did Hughes even last the season? was hilarious going to Hemisfair and hearing people rag on Alfrederick the Great every time he checked into a game. Funny you mention Corbin, since the Spurs drafted him and then never ing played him before he blew up in Cleveland and Atlanta. LOL Cotton Fitzsimmons. He was probably the only person who the fans hated on more than Hughes at games.

You have to go to the mid to late 80s during the post Gervin/pre Robinson era, aka the Dark Ages, to find players like the hirsute Kurt Nimphius...clearly the worst Spur of all time.
My favorite Nimphius memory was when he hit a half court shot at the buzzer, it was late and got waved off, and the crowd got flat-out hostile. The whole arena turned from class to Raider fan in about 10 seconds.

Richard Jefferson. Lowest basketball IQ I've ever seen. 2nd is tied between Salim Stoudamire and James Gist.

If we go by expectations + how they played before coming to the Spurs, then it has to be Jefferson for me. The hype/excitement/expectations/solid previous season were all there, and Jefferson laid an egg.

I don't think its fair to mention players who were just invited to training camp or that were inactive the majority of the year.

I think of the relevant rotation players, 00'-01' Jaren Jackson and 10' Roger Mason have to be pretty high up there.

Also forgot to mention Dwayne Schintzius, Pete Myers (who would later replace Jordan during his baseball career) and Ira Newble...

Wow yes Ira Newble was garbage. Him and his buddy Amal McCaskill. Pete Myers, I don't remember him playing with the Spurs but he sucked with Chicago. Schintzius, now let's not dance on a man's grave.

Speaking of Bateer, the story goes that Buford asked Duncan to list the strongest post defenders he has gone up against. Duncan tells Buford that the physically strongest player he has faced is Bateer. Buford then calls the Pistons and makes the trade. Buford was so clueless as to who the guy was that in the introductory press conference that he called him "Ming Batter"

Bateer was just an emergency Shaq defender; every contending team had to have an extra bruiser or two at the end of their bench to prepare for Shaq. One of the reasons why there are fewer seven-footers these days is because there's no dominant low-post threat anymore anywhere in the league. If another Shaq-like player comes along, seven-footers would see a job e.

Like Solid D said somewhere above, I didn't have a problem with him. For a deep bench big who never got time, he stayed engaged with what was going on. Jimmy Chang was awesome too.

I remember Jimmy Chang going ape in 03' when Kerr made those 3s to bring the Spurs back against the Mavs. He was hugging players left and right.

JJ earned his pay for the '99 playoff series with the Lakers imo.

Not to mention some of the big shots that buried New York in the first two games.
