Texas Gov. Rick Perry has released a radio ad in California hoping to lure businesses to the Lone Star state. Unlike California, Texas has no corporate or state personal income taxes.

"Building a business is tough," Gov. Perry says in the ad, "but I hear building a business in California is next to impossible." In the commercial he touts Texas' "low taxes, sensible regulations, and fair legal system." (Hey, he remembered all three reasons!)

(Read More: America's Top States for Job Creation 2012.)

This isn't the first time the Texas Republican has come courting California, but he has never taken to the airwaves before.

Certainly nothing wrong with a governor advocating for his own state's economic interests. Don't think I've ever seen a guv do it in such a brazen manner though.

$19B/year in tax expenditures to business in the state with almost lowest per-student spending, and one of the highest poverty rates.

That wasn't even a CG edit. The author does not appear to be all that big a fan of The Rickster.

We seem to be unable to get rid of the guy, so he's got to have a few.

He doesn't, really. There's been an ongoing movement of businesses from Cali to Tx for the last 20 years. However, that movement has not only stopped recently, but in the aggregate numbers of new businesses in Cali, it's actually reversed.

In terms of the state's economy, he doesn't. Texas will be pro-business with or without Perry.

I think this is more about Perry's personal political ambitions and wanting to "create jobs" to brag about.

    My unapologetic conspiracy theory:

Rick is gunning for the 2016 GOP bid and using Texas tax dollar to spread his name and voice over the nation's hairwaves.

It is the whole "democrats run california, republicans run Texas" measuring contest.

No surprise that the idiot in the governors mansion subscribes to it.

The two states aren't comparable, for a host of reasons, but that doesn't stop anyone from trying.

RickyBobby will be one salivating after CA if CA figures out how to get to the Monterey shale gas/oil (4x bigger than Bakken) without destroying the land and water.

Kind of like hte ed tax cuts he did a few years ago, so he could have that little box checked for his presidential run.

You know, the ones that built in structural deficits that will get worse and worse over time, and that he will be able to hand off as a huge problem to his successor. GOP governors tend to do that a lot.

The problem is that the "pro-business" ideology wins out over all other concerns. It is good to be pro-business, but when you start turning a blind eye to certain illegal activity because the company hired a lobbyist to get the governor to have parts of the state government look the other way, then it becomes a problem.

While I cannot flesh out details, I have seen this happen firsthand. It was rather shocking and appalling.

Your state government will tolerate illegal behavior if it means that we can still claim to be "business friendly". The people in charge have directly placed ideology over public good and the rule of law.

Apparently the radio ad was just setting up the personal visit.

    California, here he comes.

Gov. Rick Perry will head Sunday to the Golden State bent on poaching businesses in high tech, bio tech, finance, insurance and film.

During a four-day swing though San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and Orange County, Perry will also hold a reception for Californians who responded to recent radio spots he ran in California inviting businesses to “come check out Texas.”
