Phil Collins has gotten a worse rap than he deserves, but it's still Peter Gabriel by far.

It's probably more a personal thing than a who's better thing...but I'll go with Collins. My mom was a huge PC fan so pretty much knew every word off of every song on No Jacket Required.

Of course the better career financially and success-wise - no contest -P.Collins.

If you were to say who has or has had the most integrity in his craft and never sold out...probably Gabriel. I see nothing wrong with having hit songs and $$$ from hit songs so it is an easy choice - Phil Collins.

PG has some great . I remember buying the Say Anything cassette as a kid because of In Your Eyes, so that's probably where I became a fan. And Digging in the Dirt was a personal favorite from my youth, still is a great song.

my favorite album of his is Melt (no. 3). to me, it's very close to a perfect album. Phil Collins deserves a lot of props as well for his badass drumming on that album. Intruder is a sick, disturbing song and then it sort of goes through lots of emotions or personalities. maybe most underrated song off that album is Lead a Normal Life, i could listen to that over and over.

I actually dig a lot of Phil Collins but his stuff is definitely more rooted in mainstream/motown flavors, which is why more blacks like Phil Collins. Gabriel tends to make more interesting or challenging music. I'll take Gabriel but Collins has some great as well.

I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe.

Phil did put out some pansy songs that got some air time, but In The Air Tonight has that unforgettable drum beat.

I love PG but I think the edge goes to PC.

PC by a smidge. Both are great

I once saw a concert (PBS or something) where Phil was playing this massive drumset on a rotating stage, with 3 or 4 more dudes also playing different drumsets along with the rest of the band. There were 12 (or so) people all playing together. in crazy

They both had some sick videos, too (Land of confusion being my fave)

Sussudio and Sledgehammer are go to jams on the playlist

I love drummers and I really love singing drummers so I love Phil Collins. But, Peter Gabriel is just such an amazing talent I gotta vote for him. His music and lyrics aren't just songs, they are entire projects and you can just hear/feel every layer of construction and the effort in each one. I love world music and it's influence in his work. I follow many his Real World Records artists. I admire his humanitarian efforts too.

since we're talking about Phil Collins, has anyone seen him around SA? i read an interview where he was thinking of buying a place down there, he's like a hardcore Alamophile. I can't blame him for being an Alamophile, that place has always had a special vibe to it imo.

Gabriel's voice is the greatest musical instrument I've ever heard.

    The complexity and range.

Collins is an awesome drummer and a better singer than Gabriel. But, Gabriel is a more creative artist and I much prefer his songs.

How can you say Collins is a better singer than Gabriel? I know it's not quantifiable and is opinion, but Gabriel's voice is unique. I've never heard another like it. Listen to Red Rain and Shock the Monkey for dynamism, or In Your Eyes, Book of Love, or I Grieve for on-point singing.

I figure if Gabriel has anything on Collins it's voice and its use.
