its an instrument.
and it isn't new. just another version of the talk box zapp and roger used. i think some guitar player in the 70's used it too but can't remember his name.
Cheating or just a new musical instrument?
I know some people hate on those that use it but if the end product is something that people enjoy then isn't just another type of instrument? Your thoughts... opinions.

No, it's definately not new. I just don't think that it has been used as frequently as it is now. I am not just talking about Lil Wayne and T-Payne using it but "legit" singers. There are more than a few of them if you actually listen to their singing.
Of course it is cheating. Of course today's artists will use it.
i haven't heard a legit singer use it yet.
just flash in the pan one hit wonders like that rebecca saturday girl.
Taylor Swift uses it! She sounds horrible without it and doesn't sound any better with it.
True talents really don't need it. My EX sings lead in church and sings at weddings and such. She doesn't need anything at all. But, then again she can really sing..... which is exactly what Trill is sayin.
Didn't Brittany Spears use that?
notsureifsrs.
Auto tune has been around in various boxes for at least 20 years now. I was using it in the mid-90's in a studio I owned. The TC harmonizer and the Digitech Vocalist both had pitch correction algorithms. They weren't any better than what you hear today either. lol
As an effect, it's unique....I guess. ing annoying tbh.
it's like the auto switch gear used by professional racing drivers. although it's widely used, it's still cheating imho
Depends.
For example, I think T-pain is cheating by relying solely on it while lets say someone like Kanye who only uses it sparingly.
if autotune is classified as an instrument which then reclassifies them to be a singer or whatever you call them these days....then wouldnt DJs who compose their own on the turntable be class as singers also?
hence i dont see djs getting awarded or recognize for their contribution at these more popular known music award events...
You cold son.
But I still bursted out laughing when pops started his long note of crying though.![]()
