That's what I'm talking about.
I think mine takes about 20 secs with my barracuda. Haven't timed it since adding more programs.
That's a nice deal. I bought a 64 GB Samsung 830 for my new desktop build for $60 locally. Since it's my first SSD, I didn't want to spend too much, but I figure I'll get a 128 GB 840 Pro if I run out of space on this one (not likely).
I forgot how much I paid for the 120gb I have in my desktop. Damn fast boot times though. Not that it gets turned off very often.
it's not just boot times... apps launch crazy fast and the whole machine just flies, tbh
Sorry son, I'm holding off upgrades until the Quantum Athlons are released.
can't wait to run Shor on that... that's like: gg RSA
Are you also waiting for 1.8 THz processors?
You are going to hate me.

Samsung 500 GB 840 for 295 + free shipping
nah, I'm good. SSD frees up a TB drive for me. thanks tho!
I knew this woukd be fast, but 7 install from usb in about 8 mins with ahci on
Meh. Anything short of an editing program opens instantly even with a HDD anymore. Chrome loads in ~.5 seconds no matter what drive I have it installed to. Same with just about everything.
My g/f just bought an Apple, and I tried to convince her to buy the newer SSD (and retina also) version, but she wanted the integrated optical drive, so no dice. I offered to build her a desktop like the one I posted but she declined for some reason. Oh well.
ArcGIS loads faster for me from the SSD and its noticeable but honestly thats about it.
ssd and bigger internal hdd dont make sense these days, when ppl are moving away to external crap![]()
There is some merit to that, with as fast as external devises are getting.
I now, keep many of my files on an external. That way, I can work on them from several computers, and not have multiple different copies.
Still, if you have a fast enough HD controller, SSD is the way to go for your operating system and high performance games. SDD in many computers will not increase large file size transfer rates. If you are already pushing the max data speed, you will only see a seek time improvement.
ninite.com is awesome for mass installs of programs after reinstalling.
Depends on the program, tbh... things like Photoshop still take some time for an initial launch on an HDD... I actually use Firefox, and that actually runs noticeably faster here too, not just launching (probably the much quicker read of cached data)... that said, I used to have a 5400 rpm drive on this box before, so the difference is obviously pretty huge.
I think PS qualifies as an editing program.![]()
very happy so far. CH, does your case have 2.5" bays or do you have a converter bracket?
oops, missed that part on your post.
Both, but since the case had it included I just mounted it to the case's 2.5". Really easy to pop in.
Wow converting eps of Black Mirror is taking only 2 mins. Handbrake FLIES
