Eight Senators Vote To Block Violence Against Women Act

Eight Senators on Monday voted not to consider the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, a bill that protects victims of domestic violence. The Senators who voted against moving to debate on the bill were: Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Mike Lee (R-UT), Tim Scott (R-SC), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Mike Johanns (R-NE), Rand Paul (R-KY), Pat Roberts (R-KS), and James Risch (R-ID).

VAWA’s reauthorization has been caught up in partisan gridlock over added provisions that would protect undo ented immigrants, as well as LGBT and Native American victims of domestic violence.

It is expected to pass, but will face a tougher battle in the House.

Do men, like yourself, need protecting from women?

Most men do not. However, there are some cases. Is it something that is equal law among the sexes, or special rights for women?

says the MAN who claims women are paid EQUALLY as men for the same job, so the "special rights" Equal Pay regulations are not needed.

Of course men get violently abused, and get breast cancer. But about 98% of the the problem is men abusing women, gays, illegals, aborigines, so the VAWA attacks the bulk of the problem, at least symbolically, specifically because any existing laws aren't working.

There's 1000s of laws, regulaitons, TAX POLICIES that try to get people to behave in a certain way, achieve a result, or avoid a result.

the permission for men to use force on their ty wives is a fair compensation for what they lose in their marriges. marrige is a terrible deal for men to begin with and it'd make it even more biased against men if they're deprived of the right to treat their es the way it should be tbh

Does anybody have any cop friends? I have a few. Ask one about women and the validity of most domestic violence calls and see if they think an Act of Congress is necessary to protect women. That includes female cops.

I had an ex that once threatened me with a made up domestic violence call for barely pushing her away from me when she was slapping me like crazy for some BS 22 year old girl reason. I left and she apologized and said she just lost her mind. I have plenty of friends with the same story. Most of the girls will admit what they were doing after some time. False rape threats are a story for another thread, I suppose. Of course, I expect congress to start debating these topics any day now.

Interestingly, the few women I have heard of actually getting hit (including an aunt) never called the cops, or even considered it by all accounts, despite friends telling them too. All who were married still are and seem fine. There's probably a lesson in all of that somewhere.

Senate Passes Violence Against Women Act, 22 Male Republicans Vote No

The U.S. Senate voted overwhelmingly this week to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), approving the measure by a 78 to 22 member vote. The bill was bipartisan, sort of, in that it garnered the vote of every female senator regardless of party lines. However, 22 Republican male senators voted against the bill because of its provisions dealing with domestic abuse on tribal lands and discrimination based on sexual orientation.
