NEW YORK — The 33.5 million people who saw President Barack Obama's fifth State of the Union made it the smallest audience for the annual speech since Bill Clinton's last address in 2000.
The Nielsen ratings company said Wednesday it was down from the 37.8 million people who saw Obama's State of the Union last year. The 52.4 million people who watched his first address in 2009 were his largest audience.
Sixteen networks aired the speech Tuesday night. The 6.5 million people who saw it on NBC just barely gave the network bragging rights over CBS, which had 6.4 million viewers. Nielsen says ABC had 5.5 million viewers for the speech. It says 3.7 million people saw Obama on Fox News Channel, 3.6 million on CNN and 3 million on MSNBC.
son of a already won reelection so there's no need to act kind and keep his ratings up imho
You're welcome, obsessed stalker.
get over yourself, coward.
I'd like to add the Fox News is still butthurt over Barak Hussein Obam's re-election..
The decline in viewership was seen exclusively on the broadcast networks. NBC alone lost 2 million viewers vs. last year. Overall cable viewership stayed about the same as 2012 (fewer viewers on Fox News offset by higher viewership on CNN/MSNBC.)
Perhaps America is getting tired of watching a 30 minute speech stretched to 90 minutes by standing ovations. I'd love to see the SOTU moved to the Oval Office.
So I guess Romney gets to be president now?
Co-Signed.
It was show biz President St Ronnie The Diseased who started the trend of making SOTU a big deal, a show biz, prime time extravaganza.
The SOTU has preempted radio and TV broadcasts in prime time since 1968. So unless Reagan the California Governor had a hand in this "trend" it looks like you're full of .
I just think people today just have other options now.....I rarely watch network TV...love me some walking dead...
Ok.....Jimmy Kimmel is cool..
