Great thread, will bookmark.
I'll start with one.. there is just so many
Waltz with Bashir not winning best foreign in 2009 keeping the trend going that films with controversial content are disregarded.
Please continue
Brenda Blethyn not being nominated for Best Actress in Atonement
I can't say it better than aaryan-rooz:
“ Frances McDormand was sensational as the naïve, yet insistent cop in 1996's "Fargo". Yet, it doesn't even begin to compare with what Ms. Blethyn did in Mike Leighs masterpiece "Secrets and Lies". Hers is a performance of such depth and humanity that it merits the top spot on this list. I dare say, without a milli-seconds hesitation, that it is the greatest performance by a female actress... Of all time. ”
Joaquin Phoenix got snubbed with no nomination for his role in The Master, though I don't think he has the nicest things to say about the Academy so sort of makes sense.
Every fru-fru british romance/drama/period piece of the last 20 years...whoever lost BP to them got snubbed.
Isnt their a hilarious sad face gif of Leo supposedly getting snubbed again? I dont think hes ever won an Oscar.

Tom Cruise: Jerry Maguire
Russell Crowe: The Insider
Looper not getting a best screenplay nomination is pretty bad tbh.
Julia Roberts over Ellen Burstyn.
i understand the critics dont like those soulless movies but the avengers deserves a award for screenplay at least, but is not likely to get one due to their innate prejudice against fictional films
Although I've never seen My Left Foot and I don't doubt that DDL was great, one of my favorite performances ever was Tom Cruise in Born on the 4th of July
greatest injustice ever
how leo hasn't got an oscar bewilders me... one of the greats to be honest.
brad pitt also deserved an oscar for his role in the curious case of benjamin button imho
Ordinary People winning over Raging Bull (one of the GOAT films, imo). Shakespeare in Love winning over Saving Private Ryan. The English Patient winning over anything.
LOTR: Return of the King, too. Destroyed my bladder waiting for that to mercifully end.
Sean Penn over Bill Murray was bad.
The King's Speech beating The Social Network
John Wayne beating out Dustin Hoffman in 1969 for the Best Actor Oscar.
West Side Story winning Best Picture over The Hustler.
Touch of Evil getting absolutely zero Oscar consideration in '59.
Rocky winning Best Picture over both Network and Taxi Driver. Rocky is a classic film, but it isn't masterpiece territory like those other two.
Heat getting zero Oscar consideration.
English Patient over Fargo.
2007 **No Country for Old Men
2009 The Hurt Locker
Film The King's Speech Black Swan The Fighter Inception The Kids Are All Right 127 Hours The Social Network Toy Story 3 True Grit Winter's Bone
2007 4 of the 5 were good nominees (the embarrassing exception being Juno). Every year there's a couple of embarrassing nominees for BP
Ratso Rizzo was great. That movie gets you at the end...cant help it
I personally preferred The Thin Red Line over SPR but both were better than Shakespeare in love
