Indeed. The Zen Master's never paid the Spurs a compliment in his life.

Here's an excerpt of a Phil Jackson interview by Jack McCallum of SI. He gives the Spurs credit on how much they evolved offensively over the years.
I guess getting engaged to Dr. Buss' daughter has soften him.![]()
Indeed. The Zen Master's never paid the Spurs a compliment in his life.
Where's that GIF of David Robinson hanging Phil Jackson out to dry at an All Star Game....
That's true, BatManu20.
It seemed like he went out of his way to take shots at the Spurs when he was coaching the Lakers.
Since he's not coaching anymore....I guess he can be friendly against one of his rivals these days.
altough, in an indirect way, he credits himself for the system the spurs are now running so well (as a result of having to defend it that is). he kind of lumps all other coaches into the unimaginative and banal set though (pretty funny actually)
His compliments are always hidden with some other meaning. I could wipe my ass with his compliments. They're never sincere.
Obviously you have to look hard to find the compliment. It's more of an observation. Like he sure has gotten better in the last ten years. Wasn't he pretty good ten years ago as well? Right as the Spurs were starting to win les?
Regardless, I do think Pop has done something the last three years that Phil has never done. Specifically, get the best record in the league with a roster that doesn't include a superstar. I guess he did have the one year where Jordan retired and Pippen led the Bulls to the semifinals in the Eastern Conference. Pop has been better the last three years winning with a team no one thought would be in the playoffs (after the sportswriters had prediced their demise the last couple years only to see the Spurs win an outrageous number of games in the regular season and even make the WCF, Sportswriters just ignore them, but certainly recognize they'll be a top 5 team every year).
Phil has always had the Stars in their prime. Pop is showing you can win with faded stars.
phils not a fan of non stop pic and roll lol
He's more in favor of giving the ball to Jordan and Bryant and letting them go one on one. Or one on four.
He didn't seem to say anything that fans on here haven't also said. From what I got, he said that Pop relied on Duncan and Robinson during the first several years, and as time's gone on, Pop has adapted to have a guard-friendly offense. I think he means that Pop had it easy in the beginning, but as time has gone on, he's shown himself more than capable of being an offensive architect. Sounds like a compliment to me.
That is how I read it...he was giving himself credit by using Pop.
colonel chicken
When geezers get old and have a foot in d grave they suddenly love everyone. him and his opinions
He's just being a bag. He's complimenting himself. The reporter is the one who (kinda) compliments the Spurs and Pop.
it's so true, I think it has something to do with seeing the light at the end of the tunnel..
welcome to the new troll.
Looking forward to playbonner v. playblair
The new CoP vs CoM??
That's just wrongit's hard to tell whether he did it on purpose or not, but it's more than likely that he did (1st time that I've seen this... how did I ever missed this one
)
Oh, David... should have slapped his hand as hard as he could (just cos he's the great coach that he was... that would have been something else)
And we care what pj says because??? him!
That video never gets old.
The look on Jackson's face as he pivots still offering his hand is priceless.
How could it not be on purpose? You can see that he looks right at him. Thanks for making my day.
Backhanded compliments. Basically said that Popovich's system is good because it's like the triangle offense.
