Took a tour of the local Christian private school this summer (we are Christian). Wife also happens to be a Biochem professor. We asked to see the Junior High life sciences (Biology) textbooks the school uses.

    OH. HOLY. !

The first page of the 7th grade books (paraphrasing):

"We the authors of this textbook (Bob Jones University "Profs" btw), believe the Bible to be the True, Unerring, Literal word of God. If we see anything in our lives that suggest otherwise, then we know we are being deceived, and we will not believe whatever false evidence is being presented."

We handed the books back, and ran away in horror. School is growing, btw. As an "evangelical" Christian, I cannot believe the damage these other people are doing to the cause of Christianity by being ignorant tools. Jesus would slap them silly (at least the Jesus I read in Scripture). He did not suffer stupidity lightly (certainly not blind adherence to Dogma). "Test Everything" - from 1st Thessalonians.

BTW: to the OP: Christianity may say repent and go to Heaven = Jesus said this:

There it is in a nuts . Pretty simple, tbh. (Also, note, it does not say that everyone that does NOT believe is going to )

Although Jesus did also say this (again, not excluding anyone specifically - he is a path that must be taken, but I've never assumed it meant during this lifetime)

Plenty of Christians REALLY have a problem with this line of argument, btw...

But the God I believe in isn't an asshole.
    Well said.

It's scary how some christians would rather close their eyes and ears than have a belief tested. Met alot of Cornerstone alumni in my lifetime and see that kind of view in them alot. It's why I respect the Catholics and their views of education, even though I don't believe alot of their religion.

Oh, the irony. I made a claim and backed it up with evidence from The Bible, and YOU were the one who gave vague non-answers repeatedly, not me.
You have no idea what you are talking about and unable to understand the context in the bible. I'm a christian and you are trying to get me with laws that most Jews don't even follow.

    Thanks bro!

you could show them a glass of water and splash it on their face and then ask them if they agreed that the water was wet and they would respond with ---
"no - you are just a in idiot and I didn't see or feel anything you are blah-blah"

Goes with the spurstalk territory. Thanks.

Wheres the link? That was luke warm. You said cold water... you're re ed.

Right, you pick and choose what works for you and ignore the parts you don't like.

It's what most Christians like to do.

You have no idea what you are talking about and unable to understand the context in the bible.
Then help me understand instead of merely asserting that what you say is true. I provided evidence to support my position, and you haven't done jack .

I'm a christian and you are trying to get me with laws that most Jews don't even follow.
I don't give a whether you follow them or not. You claimed that Jesus doesn't support slavery, and I provided verses from The Bible that show that he does. You not agreeing with the laws I mentioned only shows your intellectual dishonesty.

Show me the context where slavery is okay.
Show me the context where stoning children to death is okay.
Show me the context where killing sexuals is okay.

Stop being a hypocrite and explain your position in detail. Your dismissals are absolutely worthless.

You clearly don't understand Christianity either if you think Christians not cutting the hair by their ear is hypocritical

what??? None of that is accepted in christian teachings or from Jesus' teachings. Where did you get that from? What are you talking about?

I'm not saying my views are the only right ones. Nor do I tell people that theirs are wrong. I couldn't care less about what someone thought about my religious views, parenting, career, deployments, or the fact I blow my nose and look in the tissue paper.

Do you think it has more to do with uniform standards and less with religious beliefs?

possibly, but I've never had a rule like that at any other schools, private or otherwise.

but the point is, there are many interpretations of the bible. To tell someone they don't understand christianity based on their interpretation is pretty self-righteous.

    hence this thread, i suppose

You really have to go through everything that's been said. an atheist using a rule from leviticus about jesus being ok with slavery. That if that isn't misunderstanding, then I'm wrong. When I first stated it, it was to help them understand that they were not understanding the subject they are trying to debunk. Self-righteous??? I don't see it.
Also that seems like a pretty bad way to make your point...

There are literally thousands of different denominations of christianity throughout the world.

Apparently none of you clearly understand christianity.

God endorses slavery. Jesus is God. Per the Bible.

I'm guessing you are going to somehow claim that one or both of those parts of the Bible don't matter to real christians.

You never once showed that Jesus supported slavery
Yes, I did. Jesus said to follow the teachings of the Old Testament. The teachings of the Old Testament condone slavery. Therefore, Jesus condones slavery. Or are you saying that Jesus disagrees with the word of God?

what??? None of that is accepted in christian teachings or from Jesus' teachings. Where did you get that from? What are you talking about?
    http://www.biblegateway.com

    Condoning slavery:
    Leviticus 25:44-46

    New Living Translation (NLT)

44 “However, you may purchase male and female slaves from among the nations around you. 45 You may also purchase the children of temporary residents who live among you, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, 46 passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat them as slaves, but you must never treat your fellow Israelites this way.

    Stoning children:

    Deuteronomy 21:18-21

    New Living Translation (NLT)

    Dealing with a Rebellious Son

18 “Suppose a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father or mother, even though they discipline him. 19 In such a case, the father and mother must take the son to the elders as they hold court at the town gate. 20 The parents must say to the elders, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious and refuses to obey. He is a glutton and a drunkard.’ 21 Then all the men of his town must stone him to death. In this way, you will purge this evil from among you, and all Israel will hear about it and be afraid.
    Killing sexuals:

    Leviticus 20:13

    New Living Translation (NLT)

13 “If a man practices sexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense.
And Jesus saying that the Old Testament's teachings are still valid:

    Matthew 5:18-19

    New Living Translation (NLT)

18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. 19 So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
So, is The Bible the word of God or is it not?

    Hey Woo Bung-Hole;

Gonna have to be until tomorrow night - lotta to take care of and this is a humongous undertaking - so I will probably have to break it down into Part 1, Part 2, etc....

after a Part 1 - and depending on the level of disrespect and "you are an idiot comments" then I will see if part 3,4,5,29,40 etc is necessary...

Part 1 will have to wait until tomorrow night.

    happens.

That is indeed a dress code issue and not a religious tenet as to how one must wear his hair. It is the same as saying the girls can not wear dark nail polish.
