Big men often play into their 30s. Guards not so much as they must have at least some speed to use on the other end on defense for them to get significant minutes. TD certainly seems dedicated to keeping himself fit so he can play at a high level. Just look at his stats this year. While these change from game to game, according to Basketball Reference, he is second in total blocked shots, second in defensive rebounds, in the top 10 or 15 players in a couple of categories. #1 in overall defensive rating and #6 in overall player efficiency rating.

That's pretty rarefied air and this year he should be a coaches selection as an All-Star because he's earning it.

Duncan has almost as many blocks this season in 41 games (114) as he had in 78 in 2009-10 (117), at 33.

That was his worst season by block pct (3.5), and now he's having his best (6.7). Three months shy of 37.

Not only did the San Antonio Spurs pull out the win over the Sixers last night, Tim Duncan hit a milestone in his NBA career.


Duncan finished with 17 rebounds for the game and with that, he passed former NBA big man Jerry Lucas on the NBA career rebounding list.
Heading into the games against the Sixers, Duncan had recorded 12,927 rebounds good for 16th on the rebounding list. With the 17 boards last night, Duncan moved into 15th place with 12,944 rebounds.


In 14th place is Buck Williams with 13,017 rebounds. Duncan needs 74 more rebounds to pass Williams which he will assuredly do this season.
Congratulations TD! Well deserved.

I don't think he'll pass Allen this season. Allen has been consistently averaging double figure points in this last 6 games.

In points, Duncan has a chance of passing Barkley this season. Passing Allen will probably have to wait till next season.
If Duncan plays every game at his current pace, Tim would be 4 points ahead of Chuck. I don't think Tim will play every game.
The Heat have more games to play than the Spurs. Allen projects to be about 30 points ahead at the end of the season. Allen is more likely to play a higher percentage of remaining games than Duncan. I'd predict a 40 point Allen lead at season's end. Duncan should pass Allen before Iverson.

Parker is 122 behind Charley Scott.
Jackson is 6 behind Rik Smits.
Ginobili is 3 behind Hedo Turkoglu.

Buck Williams was a great block out rebounder.

Nice. 1 or 2 more games to get that steal, 3 or 4 games to get those assists, 2 (or 1 the way he's been playing) games to get the rebounds. The blocks milestone should occur in the middle of next season, and the points near the end of this season.

Ray Allen will probably retire if the Heat win another le, so Tim could pass him that much faster.

We already know that he won't be playing in the last two games. So that means he has to average 18.7ppg in the next 13 games to achieve it.

He's only averaging 17.1 PPG this season; I thought it was more like 18 or 19. With Parker coming back he'll score less, so I see your point. I was thinking there were more games left.
