Apparently there will be more cuts to come, report is they have to cut about 100 fighters

Sources close to the UFC told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) the UFC plans to release as many as 100 fighters in 2013, a byproduct of the recent start of the women's division as well as taking on the contracts of fighters from Strikeforce following the closing of that promotion.

"Former welterweight contender Jon Fitch was among the 16 UFC fighters who were released from the promotion on Tuesday.

UFC president Dana White also confirmed with MMAFighting.com that the following fighters were also let go: Wagner Prado, Mike Russow, Jacob Volkmann, Vladimir Matyushenko, Che Mills, Jay Hieron, Terry Etim, Paul Sass, Jorge Santiago, Mike Stumpf, Simeon Thoresen, C.J. Keith, Motonobu Tezuka, Josh Grispi and Ulysses Gomez."

WOW!! That is pretty cold blooded on the part of the UFC because Fitch was pretty open about his financial problems of late. But Dana does not care, in his mind this is not a charity, you either are one of the best or you are not. I don’t think Fitch is anymore but I did not think he would get cut yet. I feel sorry for Jon...

    Vlad? Che? Sass? Etim? Grispi?

Bit harsh, not mentioning Fitch a top 10 welter

How does the UFC have official top 10 rankings and is cutting guys in that top 10? Fitch has not fought well of late but he is currently ranked 9.. 24-5-1 record.. Fitch turns 35 in 4 days.. Not a very Happy Birthday...

Damn, some good fighters getting cut - looks like the guys over at Bellator are going to have a improvement in their level of compe ion.

Fitch will have a job with Bellator within a week. I'm betting they have already reached out to him.

I hate to say this but i think Rousey's fight last night was more exciting than every fight in Fitch's whole career in the UFC..

Women fighters aren't worth losing depth in the men's divisions. This isn't about Fitch and Rousey

The womens division has cross appeal for the UFC and i think the UFC can build Tate as a star along with Ronda. I was skeptical but that event last night was a huge success.. The lower mens divisions is what causing these cuts more than the women coming in.

I didn't like those divisions either but not as much as the women's. I don't believe the women will be able to draw any money in the future when the buzz of this dies down. , even Around The Horn talked about this card, now that the first is out of the way it's all down hill from here (hopefully) imo

The UFC does well when they invest heavily and given the success of this first show i give the womens division a good chance to last.. Fitch should not have been cut, I think it was 1 fight to soon..

So there should be no jobs for anyone in the UFC unless they are exciting? This is a sport and not the WWE.. Spurs never would have made the finals if it was only about perceived excitement.. Fitch did get kind of screwed in spite of being boring..

Sure, it's a sport, but it's also a business. Quit being butt-hurt over this, for sakes. NOBODY buys a PPV to watch Fitch fight. He is the butt of every lay&pray joke ever made, and like White said, he's gone from #1 contender to 9th in 4 fights, with one win out of the four. So sorry, Charlie, that just ain't getting it done.

Also, your analogy about the Spurs is ing worthless, man. Apples/Oranges. Night/Day. You/Straight. The Spurs had talent, and they got their RINGS because of it. Fitch has zero talent (in context, bags) and absolutely zero appeal. I can't believe he lasted this long, to be honest.
