That's good value for him. New Orleans may look really silly in a couple of years.

That's significantly below what he could get in the open market. Time for the team to actually use the flexibility he provides to surround him with better players. He's taken below market value pay his entire career and in recent years the Patriots haven't used it well at all.

Is Tom doing this in order to keep Wesley E. Welker?

Probably more to keep Talib and Vollmer while adding Ed Reed and Dwayne Bowe tbh

......Brady had Welker in mind when signing a cap-friendly extension. Brady wants to ensure the Patriots remain le contenders, and that includes keeping his No. 1 target in the fold. Rest assured Brady expects his team to make an even stronger push for Welker before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in March.

Oh, wow. The deal is fully guaranteed. That might be the biggest fully-guaranteed deal in league history.

@AlbertBreer: Brady deal converts his old deal into, essentially, a five-year, $60 million contract. And all $60 million is guaranteed.

tbh Blake it's more about what Belichick has in mind. We all know Brady wants to keep his midget sized clutch pass dropping ass buddy, but no way in does Bill.

Right, because there's NOOOOOOOOOOOOO in way a head coach would hate a player for dropping a wide open game winning catch in the superbowl. Mono's the only Patriots fan in the world who hates Welker for that!

I'd be OK with bringing Welker back if they signed him to a Brandon Lloyd type deal where he's getting 3-4mil a year while they bring in a real #1 receiver so Welker truly is a slot receiver. The problem still is that Brady can't help himself and will force the ball to Welker and treat him as a #1 target as long as he's here. OTOH, Welker is still really productive when he gets to play slot receiver. All of his drops/ ups come when he has to run routes outside the numbers. If they have Welker, Lloyd, and a real #1 receiver it means the offense has enough weapons so it won't go to total once Gronk and Hernandez get their usual injuries.

Vollmer and Talib are higher priorities, and Arrington probably is too at this point since Denard might be headed to prison for a few years. It's amazing that even after all these 1st and 2nd round picks in the secondary, they're gonna be entering free agency with Ras-I Dowling as the #1 corner on the team. They better not move McCourty back to corner as that would open up another huge hole in the secondary at free safety.

Latest i've read is Dennard will likely only get 2-3 months and be back by training camp. Of course then a suspension is likely, although he wasn't in the NFL at the time of the incident, but tell that to Terrelle Pryor.

you and Mono make two. Hoodie makes three.

Probably the first time in the history of the league that fans hate the AFC's usual leader in receptions because they want someone better.

No leader in receptions has had the limited skill set of Welker, nor the QB mancrush to force it to him.

The Patriots message board I post on occassionally has plenty of people who echo our sentiment about Welker.

I don't think saying I want Welker restricted to a slot receiver role is really hating him either. He's proven that he can't be counted on as the #1 receiver and he's horribly effective outside the numbers, which is where he ends up going more in the playoffs when New England runs into good teams capable of shutting down the middle of the field.

He wouldn't get 7M a year in the open market so I don't see any reason to pay him that.

I'd also say Arrington is a higher priority than Welker, and similar to Welker he should be brought back exclusively as a slot corner as he's atrocious in coverage out wide. The difference is there's no depth at corner behind Arrington while Brady has made Edelman a productive slot receiver in the past.

They need to establish continuity in the secondary so they're not going into another season with a mishmash of young talent and no carved out roles for anyone. Assuming Denard will be back, they should still draft another corner so that way if Dowling actually shows up next season it'll be a bonus but not something that's expected.

i doubt he wouldn't get 7m on the open market.. it is true that teams are very cap tight this year, but some teams have obvious needs at wr and wes is among the best.. i don't want to hear about arrington tbh, he needs to be gone asap.

I could see Wes getting 7mil a year on the open market. Hopefully he takes a cue from Brady. It's ok though, we'll probably draft someone in the secondary that will be good the last half of next year and suck thereafter, and a WR in the 2nd round that will just suck outright.
