The thing about Manu is that he's a per-minute star, not a guy who gets heavy minutes but produces when he's on the court.
The thread le is obviously wrong, but general thrust of the argument isn't too far from the truth tbh. Manu isn't as consistent as he used to be. He's closer to a great role player than superstar at this point in his career, and that's no knock on his abilities. Like other great role players, Manu can step up and lead when needed, but it's not realistic for him to lead the scoring charge all the time anymore.

So obviously when I first made this thread there was quite a bit of hyperbole involved. Manu showed he was far more injury prone than ever before, and it seemed unlikely that he'd regain his groove, but nevertheless I never actually thought he'd never score 20 again.
Now I'm not so sure.
I'd be foolish to say that Manu will never score 20 points in a single game from here on out, but realistically, I don't think he'll score 20+ points in > 10 games from now until the day he retires.
We're 2 months into 2013 and Manu has scored 20 points only 2 times during this span.
So I'm throwing down the gauntlet with our resident Manu super homer El Nono.
I say that from Feb. 28, 2013 till the day Manu retires, he will score 20 points or more only 10 more times (at max) (regular season + playoff combined). If Manu scores 20+ points only 10 more times (or less), I win. If Manu manages to score 20 or more points in 11 games (or more), El Nono wins.
What say you, ElNono? We can put something simple on the line like having to change our signature to X for Y number of days.
Considering his craptacular performance last night, that seems almost unfair. Manu looks done.
The whole premise of this question is absurd. You realize Manu plays like 24 mins a game, right? Even if that gets bumped up to the 28-30 range for the playoffs, you're asking the guy to score 20 pts in 30 mins, or a rate of almost 27 points per 40 minutes. That's right around Kobe/LeBron/Durant territory, and certainly higher than Ginobili's ever averaged (his career-high is 25.2, in 07-08).
Right now Manu's at 21.2 per 40, at age 35. In '04-05, when he was breaking out as a star, he was at 21.6, so settle down.
Lol he plays 23 minutes and shoots it 8 times a game. KL shoots it 8 times per game so does Danny Green and they both play way more minutes than him and still average less than him
I really hope Manu decides to call it quits after this season is over. I hate to see his career ending this way and it's been painful to see the way he's been playing.
I'm hoping more for April/May/June
Interesting little factoid per Marc Stein (ESPN):
Manu Ginobili is averaging 12.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 23.3 minutes per game. The only player in NBA history to hit those levels in the same season while averaging fewer than 24 minutes is … Ginobili last season.
yeah, because if someone is good enough to put up those numbers they will normally play more...

Oh, he is more than good enough and despite the fact that he's far from his prime, any other coach in the league except for the Heat (though they might even try him at PG) would have him starting now or at least play over 30 minutes a game. That doesn't mean he'd last a full 82 game season for those teams, but they'd get as much mileage as they can out of him. I'm not knocking Pop for that now but Manu is a rhythm player and the more meaningful, consistent minutes he gets, the better he becomes, on the whole. Again, I'm not knocking Pop's handling of Manu these days but let's not say Manu isn't "good enough" because he certainly is.
Yeah Manu has strongly hinted in a couple of recent practice sessions that he needs more time on the court in order to find a proper rhythm and that if he's expected to play 30+ MPG in the playoffs (sporadically) that he needs to play 30+ MPG in the regular season leading up to the playoffs. Otherwise, we'll see a tried, useless Manu like we saw in the 4th quarter/OT of the Phoenix game.
