Serious question. I can't think of any series where this happened since TP became THE MAN, which is what? 2008?

I wouldn't know if there is a TP stopper as he is the fastest player in the league. Altough he has had series in which for some reason goes cold. I'd say the best TP stopper is sometimes TP. Off the top of my mind: last year series against OKC, 2011 vs. Memphis.

TP playing badly always seems to coincide with the team playing badly, at least since he's been THE MAN. Either his play affects the whole team that much, or he can't play well if his teammates aren't hitting shots or opening up driving lanes.

Sefalosha, Conley exposed TP last couple of years. What makes you think this year will be any different?

right but will TP ever get over the hump and carry his team to playoff victory as a leader. My point was are there any hopes or signs of this year being any different?

He carried the team when we lost to Dallas 4-1 first round. Others gotta come along. And this year we have players that can. Manu's lack of productivity has been a big problem last two years in the playoffs. Splitter and Leonard need to step up and use their youth to the fullest extent. We are a better TEAM. It's bigger than Parker although beating him up is productive.

"Neutralized" does not necessarily mean that his own statistics is THAT bad. I don't have Tony's past playoff statistics on hand. But let's just use last night as an example. If you look at box score only, his statistics seems okay. But as the PG and the best player in the team, his impact is much more than his score and assist. Since the decline of Tim and Manu, he is the first, second and third engine of the team.

Take his 7.6 apg as an example, his impact on offense may double or even triple that number. The offense starts from his penetration, and although other players get the assists by passing to the third/fourth player, but it's initiated by Tony.

So back to last night, his statistics seems okay. But when the game became close and he was called to lead the team, he was not able to break down the defense like he did the last three months. It's not just one missed shot or one turnover. It's that you can see he cannot shake off the defender as he likes. And Tim, Splitter and others had to set screens for him again and again to no avail.

Plus, statistics can only tell the story that much. Take Many as an example, his overall PER for this season is not bad at all. But no sane fans would think that Manu is the old Manu.

Best season of his career by far. We have 6 players averaging at least 9.5 points and a top 5 Offensive and Defensive...do i need to go on?

He also had TD to bail him out. Whenever TD can't bail him is when he struggles.

The funny thing is Parker doesn't get credit when he carry the team to a 10-0 playoffs run (or play a big role in at least one le). "It was only utah", "Paul was injured", "Daniel Gibson?"

But if we lose... It is all his fault

By the way, I remember Lebron being "neutralized" by Mike Pietrus ( he is not exactly Bowen) in the playoffs.
Why Parker should be able to do what Lebron couldn't?

He would meet bigger guards and freeze before that! 03 Marbury he had to sit some late and turned puss, 03 Kidd! 05 Billups! He froze up and ran like a girl then a few times! They had to use Barry late and sit him in quarters late in games, so him dissapearing is not new and has been there. He used to get scared of bigger guards who intimidated him, now it's just D players who are bigger who scare him.

TP is only as good as his supporting cast. He can have a big game but he's not going to have 4 quarters he's just not built that way. He either goes off early and gets tired by the 4th or he's cold and then gets hot but it's playing catch up. In order for the Spurs to be successful Danny Green, Kawhi Leonard, Stephen Jackson and Manu will have to show up in the playoffs. If Gary Neal is consistent and we all know Pop loves throwing Bonner out there at the worst possible time, but if he can actually hit some open 3 pointers in the post season they have a great chance. I mean seriously though, Memphis brings in Zach Randolph and Pop counters with Matt Bonner.

Mostly because he had no jump shot back then to keep defenses honest.

To the people saying "but Sefolosha exposed him in the WCF!" LeBron was shut down by Bowen. I'm not saying that TP should be compared to LeBron because the latter is bigger, more athletic, and can score from beyond the arc but there's a reason guys like Sefolosha are known as defensive stoppers.

this bull that TP got a jumpshot now is all BS

he's still a PG that needs to hold the ball and thus, he cannot be free to take those precious jumpshots he's supposed to be so good at. It's a lose lose situation. He's not fast enough to beat everyone, plus he's small and weak to get his own shot. how the he's supposed to be effective now that he has a shot then?

Reading this thread made me feel like I fell into an alternate universe and the series with OKC where TP was sut down by Sefolosha did not happen.

In game 6 vs OKC Parker scored 29 points with 12 ast and the Spurs lost the game anyway, Sefolosha is a great defender and is a problem at times for Parker but "shut down" or "neutralized" are terms a little extreme. What is supposed to do Parker when he is double teamed ? Okc did that a lot.

I said it a hundred times, the Spurs scored enough points to win the series against OKC, the problem was the defense.
And lol at overreacting after a defeat against the Suns. The Spurs played sleepwalking the entire game.

Anyway, Lebron is on a Michael Jordan level right now... So there's like absolutely no chances to win the le this year.
Duncan & Ginobili are too old to win against the young stars of the league.
Durant, Westbrook and Ibaka can play 48 min/game.
Lebron, Wade and Bosh can play 48 min/game.
    The big 3 can't.

I am just enjoying the last years (months ?) of the big 3 and if there is a miracle at the end of the season, it's fantastic... If not, well, it was a nice journey...

Which always makes me wonder why they didn't put Lebron on Parker that series.
Guess Mike Smith was doing us a solid.

His statistics in the first half of game 6 were epic, but we all know what happen the second half.
