I think Mills if Manu is on the floor, otherwise CoJo or Nando. Will be interesting to see how CJ holds up against decent opponents

De Colo. Obviously. He has that extra motivation when he's put into the starting lineup. Plus his playmaking abilities are needed for someone like Danny Green who thrives off Parker's passing.

Then Manu-Patty off the bench. CoJo for 3rd string PG.

Neal being out also affects everything.

Another idea might be to start Diaw at PG and see how that works. Just keep bringing Blair or Bonner off the bench and sub Splitter and Duncan as necessary so the turd towers aren't on the floor at the same time.

Yes, but Pop was looking at Gary Neal the whole time making googly eyes at him while Bonner filed his taxes.

Neal's also an option that Pop can go to.
Thats not a very good option at all at PG.

It'll be Nando.. Cory looked pretty good out there last night, wouldn't be surprised after a few games if Pop gives him the starting nod. Gary Neal might see some good minutes at PG though, Pop's "team chemistry" always seems to include him in that position.

Cory fouled out in 10 minutes last night and made zero assist. Sure he defends alright, but how can he be given real minutes if he plays like that?

I'm pulling for Nando, with Mills as a backup.

Not much of a CoJo fan, but I would prefer he be given the nod to see if he truly has what it takes to play with the big boys. DeColo is an ongoing project that may be better than anyone expects once his shot is fixed. Mills is what he is, but is better than Neal at the point. That leaves CoJo as the unknown and how far his game has come.

wouldn't make more sense to start manu with cojo and bring nando and green off the bench? outside of tony, manu is our best ballhandler..

Considering that most people feel SAS backup PG situation is ok because Manu runs the show with the 2nd unit, he should be the one starting when Parker is not there.

I don't want to see unproven players like Nando, Mills or Joseph running the show for 30+ minutes. Let Manu run the show, then choose the best option among Mills/Cojo/Nando to run the 2nd unit for 12-15 minutes.

There's a reason Green starts and Manu comes off the bench. The former is a better shooter and the Spurs need floor spacing with the Duncan Splitter frontcourt.

Didn't Manu start with Green and Leonard once last season? Might be time to revisit that.

I'd like to see Kawhi have the ball in his hands more initiating the offence, see how he does in limited possessions.

De Colo start at the point sharing possessions with Kawhi and Ginobili running it off the bench.

Who fills in at Point Guard while Tony Parker is out, and why?

    I think it is dependent on Tony's prognosis;

    1. If he's only going to be out for a few games, or day to day , then why disrupt the rotation? Maybe go with Mills or even Joseph, if they don't turn into screw ups by abandoning the offensive schemes.

    2. If he's out for a long period, or that amount of time which I will not say, then probably De Colo. This would throw the rotation PG duties back to Manu and Neal.

Joseph just got out of hand last night with the fouls. Besides that, I think it should be a no-brainer. Cory Joseph should be given a shot at the PG position, and the backup spot when Tony is healthy. He's a complete PG, can score, and might be the best defender on the team. DeColo will be alright, if that's who Pop chooses, but it should definitely NOT be Gary Neal, and Patty can't handle full-time PG duties. He is great off the bench, though. Give it to Cory.

I think DeColo would be the best option available at this point. Maybe Manu can play more minutes as long as Parker's out and shoulder the playmaking responsibilities whenever he is on the court.

I think some consistency will be important. Hopefully Pop makes his choice and sticks with it. He can always make adjustments after the start.

I hope he avoids starting De Colo one game, Mills the next, CJ after that, etc...

Whether he starts or not during this stretch, CJ needs big minutes so he can eliminate some of those "rookie" calls he is getting. I know that sounds like an excuse but CJs defense wasn't that bad last night to warrant 6 fouls in 10 minutes; refs just need to get use him on the court and how he guards. This shouldn't be the case, but that is just how refs are in the NBA.

Going from not being with the team at all and playing in the D-League to being an NBA starter? I just can't see Pop attempting something so risky to the Spurs' advantageous record.

    Wise words indeed.

The second unit can survive w/o Manu, they done it b4.
