Per San Antonio express news Neal has been battling the dreaded plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinitis in the same foot all year, and it's not expected to heal until the offseason. If this is causing his shooting to suffer and isn't expected to heal, it could really put a dent in our rotations unless he learns to adjust his shot to the injury.

He was at the Rim GNC with his son a few days ago. Probably trying out all kinds of remedies.

Makes sense, he's a much better shooter than what we saw this year.

Comes at a bad time for him, since it's his contract year tho.

Pop gave him injuries so that his FA value will drop so Spurs can pick him up on the cheap again.

But on a serious note, hope he heals. It does help explain his dip in numbers this season.

If the rest helps shut him down for awhile. Although I think the same could be said for most NBA players at this point like Kawhi.

All the more reason why Pop needs to give up on him playing the backup PG role.

Restricted minutes and a defined role is what he needs, rest him and when we have a good lead he can come in to give someone some minutes to rest before the next rotation comes in. No more PG experiment.

Both of those injuries are ones that can linger for literally years. Shutting him down for a month sounds good in theory, but I really don't know how much it will help in the end. Hes not going to significantly improve with only 3-4 weeks off. He needs a whole offseason to truly get better (and even then it might not be a 100% recovery depending on how active he is).

The best bet is to let him rest for now and only use him if we really need to (like if another guard goes down). Pop needs to also seriously consider how to implement his rotations with Neal on the bench for the entire postseason.

so essentially switch his role with mills?

Yep. I had it in both feet for about 2 years before it healed up, and I didn't have to run for my job. Just getting up too quickly would aggravate it. It's probably the main reason Joseph is starting with Parker out. Pop knows the Spurs aren't going anywhere with Mills and De Colo as the rotation at the point.

When the full roster is healthy and rolling, not having Neal isn't that much of a big deal. Now, if Jackson isn't able to perform well in the playoffs and/or if Green chokes, an healthy Neal would help a lot Spurs.

Neal playing some PG should also be even more forbidden now. Even when he was at 100%, he was too slow to defend a PG with some kind of speed and these foot injuries should slower him more.

Yep, I walk about 7 miles a night on concrete for my job. That's what caused it for me. There are few people who have it. I can't seem to get rid of it.

I still feel that having Neal listed at the backup pg is fine because in that unit Manu is there to babysit

The issue is defensively. You certainly don't want to have an injured Neal trying to defend a speedy PG. The Neal/Manu backcourt can only work in curtains matchups where the opposite PG is slow.

This, I had Plantar Fasciitis when I was playing college basketball and its a and lingers, it would hurt to just walk at times, I don't think I had it that bad though because I was able to play but its definitely a tough lingering injury.

Agreed. Hes already bad enough defensively before any injuries. If this slows him anymore than normal then we're definitely screwed.

Could be why CJ is getting pushed into the fire now. See what he's got since Neal will likely have the lingering injuries.

Also, CJ with manu can work well so Manu doesn't have to over exert himself on both sides of the court. That hurt him against OKC last season.

Well there goes Pop's backup PG.

Glad CoJo had time to marinate a few seasons in the D-league. Should be ready for the grill of the playoffs now.
