So you're not buying the next Battlefield?
Why does it fall flat? Most consoles are now connected to a computer. You're assuming they went free to play at the end and didn't expect to do that all along. Most of those type of MMO's launch with an expectation that they will go free to play at some point.
So you're not buying the next Battlefield?
Sure with a wired connection but who's going to have a wire connection to their console all the time? Not practical.
Cant speak for the rest of those MMOs but the ones I mentioned did pretty bad on the market.
Very doubtful at this point.
Battlelog is one of the worst ideas in history. Using a web-portal as a server browser is beyond stupidity. Plus, with all the add-ons, if you paid full price for them (lol) then you paid over 100 bucks for this underwhelming game.
I'm not abandoning EA (FIFA and I'll probably buy Crysis3 when it drops in price), but with Origin, DLC obsession, and a penchant for ruining Devs, I will be far more selective in the future when buying les from this ty company
Why do you need a wired connection? I actually do have a wired connection to my console all the time though. I don't have it for gaming, I have it for media streaming as streaming any HD content form my PC to the PS3 over a wifi connection is pointless. But I don't think having a wired connection is nearly as uncommon as you think. This will likely be different on the next generation of consoles as having at least an N modem will make wifi much better. I've gamed on a PS3 console using wifi to connect to my cell phone's hotspot and it was fine (played BF3 online so lag actually mattered), though, so I don't think wifi connectivity is stopping people from online gaming.
Whether or not an MMO does well isn't the point though. The point is using Free to Play as a gauge of whether an MMO does well is incorrect as many of these games are now launching with the intention of going FTP. FYI, EVE online creators are releasing an FPS on the PS3 that will be FTP from day one. They have a totally different model on making money on it.
I never bought a single expansion for BF3 as I got bored (I did get the Kirkland one free though) before they came out. That being said, I did have a lot of fun with it (I played it on PS3 unlike you PC noobs - your mouse and keyboard [ Arsenal too]) and I'll pick up the next one. Same thing with FIFA. The game has a lot of flaws but I still have fun. I have Crysis 2 but its just OK - I haven't really gotten too into it and it took me the longest time to beat the first one because I just didn't care all that much - so I don't think I'll pick up the 3rd one.
EA does a lot of ty things that get annoying but I just tend to evaluate each purchase on whether or not I'll enjoy it enough to justify the 60 bucks. And THAT is why people keep buying EA games. They may be ty in some aspects and they may not have what YOU want most but so many people make the mistake of thinking that what they enjoy or what they value in a gaming experience is what EVERYONE values. That is simply not the case.
the amazon reviews for this game are pretty awesome, especially the 5 star ones.

Leemajors finding the goods
This review is from: SimCity - Limited Edition (DVD-ROM)
I was looking for something new for my computer, when I stumbled upon this game on Amazon and decided, what the heck, lets give it a shot!
I have to say it far exceeds my expectations.
Thankfully, the game never actually loads. I was looking for a program where I could zone out, and stare at my computer screen in a meditative state for hours on end with no interuptions.
There's no actual gameplay, sound effects, or graphics to distract you from your meditation.
You may be forced to run the same "Tutorial" over and over again, but don't worry about that minor problem, because as soon as you exit the tutorial you'll be returned to a program that blissfully crashes or just, never logs onto any server succesfully, once again giving you peace and quiet.
Incredible job EA, will there be a sequel?
another gem
A lot of people have not figured out how to play this game, BUT I DID! At first I thought I was paying around $80 for the game and the extra deluxe stuff to actually be able to play it and build cities. Then the whole server thing started happening and game crash after and I started getting mad....but that was when I realized that THAT WAS THE POINT OF THIS GAME! Now I spend hours on end trying to uninstall and reinstall to get rid of the constant tutorial that I played through three times already, connecting to different servers only to be told that they are down, not finding my old cities on the servers I managed to connect to for an hour or so, and raging on the forums I hope they make a leader-board for these stats soon because I'm pretty sure I'm going to be at the top of them! WINNING LIKE CHARLIE SHEEN BABY!!!
Battlelog really isn't my problem. I honestly loved BF3, there was (I guess still is) a ton of potential in that engine. If they had fixed the bugs (most notably the insane bullet lag when you run around a corner and die 3 seconds later because the hit registry picked up that you were tagged before you got to cover), worked a little harder to balance the classes, and not made certain items insanely, frustratingly OP, like mortars on Canals, then the game would have been absolutely amazing.
For whatever reason, I hardly ever found a server that had two equally matched teams. It was always a massacre, and it sucks to be slaughtered, and it's not much fun to roll over the opponent by 400 points, either.
And EA for making tiny DLC for $15 a piece. They're trying really damn hard to pass Activision for the worst gaming company in history.
I'm loving the fact that EA is getting thoroughly shat on for this steaming pile of a game, tbh..... those greedy s deserve it....

EA: SimCity's broken because it's just too much fun!
In what has to be the most incredible display of PR spin seen in a videogame crisis, an Electronic Arts spokesperson has claimed SimCity's notoriously awful DRM setbacks are a result of the game being just too gosh-darn enjoyable to quit! No, this isn't an Onion article.
"What we saw was that players were having such a good time they didn't want to leave the game, which kept our servers packed and made it difficult for new players to join," explained senior producer Kip Katsarelis on EA's forums.
The remark has already led to SimCity being renamed to SpinCity (thanks to Hollander Cooper!) in celebration of an almost impressive bit of damage control. SimCity is now the game too fun to work, and it's all your fault for wanting to play it so badly.
Amazing.
Wow re ed, bordeline delusional.
Holy , that's the most pathetic spin attempt I've ever seen!![]()
Reaches deep, deep into his ass and pulls out a nice piece of silver lining, tbh.
yogibbear says:
WHO CARES ABOUT THE DAMN SERVERS, I have played the game for ~50 hrs and let me tell you at the CORE it is ROTTEN and BROKEN as a city simulation.
a) Only 10% of your workforce will actually WORK. 90% are retirees supposably. So you will ALWAYS have high demand for workers and everyone will complain that they are broke once you reach tier 3. Numerical density development of your town is F************** beyond low wealth initial starting where a more REASONABLE 66% of your population WORKS.
b) 16 player maps CANNOT share between all 16 regions as you need to be connected by road/rail/water/etc. which are limited usually to only 3-4 other cities for each city meaning it isn’t a 16 player share fest asides from tech + research unlocks which don’t require roads
c) mid-late game ALL services (fire/police/recycling/sewage/etc.) are ALL BROKEN. Once you build 2 x sewage plants, buildings will constantly get backed up sewage as it is simulated wrong, paying $10k/hr for those 4 x fire departments, and you’ll have buildings NEXT DOOR TO YOUR FIRE DEPARTMENT that they will NEVER RESPOND TO, and sit there saying “ready to respond”.
d) If you don’t own the DLC you can’t reclaim other people’s cities that have that DLC
e) Region trade/tourism/etc. is all SERVER SIDE and because the servers are terrible this means if they go down/you lose connection while playing… guess what you GET 0 TOURISTS for that month and your casino town is now BROKE. RESTART YOUR CITIES
f) there is no undo button. No way to get cash back for incorrect placement of buildings
g) layout maps are INCORRECT and do not correctly show you the placement for maximum density
TLDR: Don’t buy this game till the core mechanics are fixed. Yes it’s fun, but it is only fun to keep restarting cities and breaking the game by using supplying chain economics to offset the RIDICULOUS imposition of pathetic late game numerical FLAWS in the core of this game e.g. 10% workers, no working services etc.
What a shame. I havent bought the game...thank god.
This could have been the most amazing game of the year (according to my presonal preferences)...shame...smh.
I wish I had information regarding the development costs of this game...small map? (FPS problems), not enough serves? (WOW), economy works like crap...WOWWOWWOW...
I was under the impression that this game was supposed to come out closer to the end of this year. Looks like they got greedy and wanted to get money quick. Glad I haven't bought this game.

*bump*
So when will they shut down the servers?
what about installing without origin?
I wouldn't mind trying simcity and ME3, but I'm not putting origin on my computer
Me too.
Been thinking of buying the whole trilogy. Its freaking cheap now.
No idea why the third game gets so much hate. People just expect fairy tale endings. I wouldn't have bothered with a extended ending like they did. Still, that was satisfactory as well.
