I think the reason he did so badly in 2008 was because he didn't look healthy at all. I just saw him in a commercial. He has lost weight and looks healthy!

Any thoughts? Think he will run again?

After the wonderful campaign he ran in 2008, I'd love to see him as the Repug 2016 candidate, with Santorum or Gingrich as veep.

The GOP seems to have interpreted Romney's loss as a failure to embrace the Hispanic and youth demos. Fred Thompson doesn't address either issue according to this simplistic reduction. It doesn't help matters that he doesn't really bring much to the table, policy- or experience-wise.

He should stick to selling reverse mortgages on TV.

He's alleged to have a healthy supply of skeletons in his closet. Don't see him making a push tbh.

Thompson was an oddly lackadaisical candidate. I liked him on "Law and Order," though.

Yeah, because it didn't work in 2004 with evangelical Christians or 2008 with young (black) people, or 2012 with women....

Terrible strategy to target certain groups within the electorate as the voting demographic shifts.

Leaders shouldn't follow the vote. They need sound reasons why they are the best candidate. Not the lesser of the evils.

If a leader fails to develop a campaign strategy that amps up attention to issues from growing segments of the electorate, they will not be given the opportunity to lead. They will fail to obtain the position to lead.

True, but most of it is bull hype. Who's the last leader you have seen? As much as I disagreed with president Clinton's politics, he was a great leader. Before him, Reagan, and Kennedy before that.

Bad link. You may want to edit it. Found my way there though.

Who cares what a poll today says for 2016?

    Things change!

Ain't nobody voting for a 74-year old for president. Move on to another strawman.

Reagan was that old when he won his 2nd term.

Now I like Thompson, but I am skeptical of how good of a president he would make. Definitely better than any we have had in some time, but his age is a concern.

This is going to read like a loaded question, but I'm honestly curious, WC: given he didn't even fare as well as wing-nuts like Santorum and Bachmann in the primaries, what is it about him that inspires confidence in you that he could be an effective leader?

It might just be his ability to act, but he brings that certain presence and certainty on stage when he speaks. He's not a bumbling fool like a president that needs a teleprompter. I believe him to be a man of good values. He has a presence that demand respect, rather than ridicule like the last couple presidents in office.

I agree. We should get Morgan Freeman and James Earl Jones to run too. Or that Schrieber guy that narrates the HBO do entaries as well.

Daniel Day Lewis played a great presidential character on TV too.

    Another viable candidate.

St Ronnie had a diseased brain fronted with a professional actor's delivery.
