more fun to hunt.
Why is it such a big deal to some people?
duh, cuz its free!
Even though it's not actually "free range" the birds get to move more, in fact they have to move around. I believe they are healthier, and it's more appealing to eat a healthy animal.
Why would they be healthier than a factory farm prisoner chicken?
... this question proves richies can be REALLY STUPID
How healthy would you be if you could only sit in one spot all your life?
well there's no time standard for "free range". they could be out for 10 seconds and be considered free range. Same with "cage free" they just put as many chickens as inhumanly possible inside a giant barn (which essentially becomes their cage)
now I assume most people don't know these technicalities and thus feel they are buying chicken that was treated more humanely. Not necessarily true.
But if you know ANYTHING about standard "factory farm" chicken then you already know the answer to your question.
No, cage free has larger than minimum required space. Technically, still a cage and they don't have outdoor access, they have adequate room to move around to go between food and nest.
We have such farms here on Oregon and Washington. I pay the extra money for cage free eggs, and they are real good.
really we're all just in cages
I see a popular feeling favoring brown eggs for some reason. I like good eggs, but I have no illusions about the approximation of humane conditions attempted by a highly consolidated industry.
I normally buy the Wilcox Farm variety of eggs. I have looked up information on this stuff before. Here is something from their web site:
link: Cage Free Aviary System
Most cage-free hens live in very large flocks that can consist of many thousands of hens who never go outside
-humane society
i agree it's slightly better than battery hens. Slightly
http://www.humanesociety.org/issues/...tery-cage.html
most breeds of chickens lay brown eggs
Why is it a stupid question?
cool. I did not know that.
CC, it's on the same scale of the "Do you eat veal?" debates. (I'm guessing you do?)
Which would you rather die for your dinner?
A happy, go lucky, not a care in the world free range chicken?
Or a depressed and possibly suicidal tortured factory prison chicken? , the factory prison chicken probably welcomes death.
I believe the point of funding free-range chicken is to ultimately decrease the amount of caged chicken.
so basically be inhumane to an animal so that way you can feel humane when you put it down?
you guys have no sense of humor.
Plus you ers kill happy chickens. Assholes.
Whenever I kill chickens, I start with the asshole roosters. tbh.
Veal is delicious.
