Up until that point, the thread reads very clearly as if you were every bit as committed to the meeting -- both in terms of logistics and intention -- as was johnsmith. The only difference is that you failed to show up, and have spent the subsequent days defending this decision. There is absolutely nothing in the original planning discussion/argument to indicate that your threats were meant to be taken less seriously than his.
Conversely, I keep my online iden y very closely guarded. Haven't even given my real first name to more than a handful of people here or anywhere else. Don't want people knowing the details of where I live or what I drive or to have more than a general idea of what I look like. Or, at the very least, don't want people to be able to get hold of that information easily.
Because my privacy is important to me, know what I don't do? I don't make plans to meet up with people from the interwebs. Not even in jest.
