    Given Kobe's age and apparent recent succeptibility to injuries, he has the option of being a valuable to mediocre role player the next year or two, going down in flames or flat out retiring. That's it.

    Can Kobe sit his tired a$$ down at the point of his inevitable decline in the next year or two and let the young guys thrive or will it be curtains for him?

    He's hunting Jabbar. He'll talk different, but, that's what it is. He knows with this talent he can't contend for the 6th. If things change yes, he'll change direction, but, until then he'll stack points, then go home and run it on the computer after he gets fat ass and the children to sleep.

    Then I guess you have a point. Since he has no prayer apparently of winning, why not go for the record, but... the question is, why doesn't he have a prayer of winning? Top to bottom, Lakers are as talented as anyone, or are they...?

    What, Artest is the only other one beside himself that can function in the fire. Gasol is a bust out and the remainder ain't ever won a in' thing.

    Bryant has been around long enough to see it. '10 sated him. He can't go after the Buss family now. The old man is dead. The money is ed. And nobody has to know what he's thinking. He'll just have fun gym ratting and scoring points. To him, that is happiness.

    don't think he'll ever accept a tim duncan role on the lakers tbh. dude will always ensure he's the #1 on his team as long as he plays and he'll then call end to his career when he feels he can no longer maintain decent stats even by jacking up shots or whatsoever.

    I think you mistaken Kobe for Duncan when say tired...Kobe's 3rd in scoring and can easily win it if he wants to...

    But Steve Nash mentioned after the game that Kobe is one of a coach...we know Kobe is bright but we cannot say the same thing about Duncan...I've never seen Duncan coaching his team on the sidelines like Kobe does:

    @LakersReporter

    Kobe's trying to explain something to MWP on the sideline, forcing the assistants to give him a clipboard.

    Kobe drawing up plays for MWP.

    Nash: Kobe's energy as a fill in coach was "great". Said Kobe wants to win, so he was doing anything he could think of to help.

    @KevinDing

    Metta on the bench is stealing from Kobe's snacks during this timeout while Kobe is out in the huddle.

    Now Kobe has the clipboard to diagram for Metta.

    Metta on the bench is stealing from Kobe's snacks during this timeout while Kobe is out in the huddle.

    Kobe yelling the play call to Nash: "Same thing! Same s***, Steve!"
    @mcten

    Kobe drawing up a diagram for Dwight: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BFb7_DwCYAEm-w5.jpg

    Metta World Peace on 'Coach Kobe': "Kobe helped us on the bench a lot by yelling out our screen and roll coverages"

    Gasol is a champion, D12 is underperforming and Steve MVP Nash is in better condition than most young PGs half his age. This is a really good group of talent that should arguably be able to beat an allstar team. I don't care about excuses. These are men and they're damn good bball players so WTF is this underachieving all about. This can only be chalked up to two things: (1) purposeful sabotage or (2) Indifference.

    Perhaps. I wouldn't bet on it. He'll continue to explore & administer all avenues of age re ation.

    He owns the Lakers now. He's in that position where he can dictate his advantage. And he's going to exploit that position (for his own benefit). He's owed and he's going to make them own up to it.

    This thread makes no sense. His recent susceptibility to injuries? He got hurt ONCE. How does that make him recently susceptible? He's close to retirement (4 years maybe). His ego isn't going anywhere.

    Right, you keep believing Kobe isn't an egocentric micromanager and I'll keep being sane.

    He doesn't have to work to hide it from most Laker fans who are blinded by his nuts in their face.

    He's a tortured soul, and so disengenous that it is difficult to watch him in interview. I get so uncomfortable that I turn the channel. But, I've enjoyed his triumphs. They've touched my heart. I still remember him running without game face at the end of Game 7, '10. He ran for Allen, but, Rondo hit the 3 to draw them closer. But, it was such an unassuming moment for Kobe. I still get a lump in my throat when I play it back on the VCR in my gourd.

    Ego can be a strength of a young man but a premature end to an old man in this league tbh.
