Goal keeper doesnt bother me.
A rule indicating you cant receive a pass if youre behind a defender does.
Its probably the dumbest rule in all of sports. Heaven forbid you get an advantage over your opponent and goals actually get scored.
am i the only one who sees the irony here?

even Hockey has a somewhat similar rule, and other field sports too.
I'm curious as to how you would prevent 3 forwards from camping near the opposing goal all game long?
Yeah, in theory it may seem like eliminating the offsides rule would improve scoring and make it more exciting for Americans. But it would get sloppy as imo with players camping around the goals...and the tactical aspect of the game would take a hit. Not sure why scoring is so important to some people--a 0-0 game can still be exciting and a goal has alot more value and thus brings more joy than a TD/basket for example.
I would love to see a bit more scoring in soccer, everyone would. And there was a time when scores of 4-2, 6-2 were commonplace. but now the strategies are so that scoring is almost impossible.
The offside rule is not perfect but it's better than nothing. Soccer was formed as a chess battle, each play needs to start with the pieces on opposite sides.
But yeah, maybe something is needed but at the moment, nobody has found what rule change could make scoring easier and keep the spirit. So that's what we end up now. Still greatest sport in history.
i think the tears cried when soccer fan says that are real.
The US hosted it in 1994.It's a world party and the US is not invited.![]()

The same reason that three players dont camp out under a basket in basketball.
you cannot compare basketball to soccer. the fields are different dimmensions and you can successfully defend a goal with 8 players in soccer vs. 10 as opposed to defending in basketball with 3 vs. 5.
with no offside rule, the ball would just fly back and forth and viewers would need a chiropractor after every game
It's actually very different. Roll a ball out into the yard and poof, organized soccer!
Organized tackle football is way too costly and expensive for the vast majority of people in the world to play. , some American colleges can't even afford it.
Nah, scoring hasnt decreased much its always been around the same. The problem is a lack of a salary cap for teams, if yall think the NBA superteams are bad its like 100 times worse in soccer...9 times out of 10 the same 2-3 teams end up as champs. Theres usually even a big difference between the mid tier teams and lower tier. Thats what leads to the strategies were the clearly inferior teams pack the bus on their side trying to get a draw or get lucky on a counterattack.
If you ever watch two equally matched teams going at each other its alot more exciting than one team just playing defense all game.
That has nothing to do with both factions having a predisposed dislike for the other sport.
It went from the usual "soccer sucks" to the "lets discuss the rules" kinda topic, I think this belongs in the Futbol section FKLA, it's really hard to discuss the game itself in here because you have people that love saying outlandish things to gain attention.
the rarity of the goals is what makes the sport great imho, the build to try to score is always entertaining. if goals were getting dropped left and right it wouldnt be as fun to watch, you have to respect how hard it is to score.
whats wrong with the offsides rule, its legit imo
Why Soccer is great compared to American sports (and it's the reason most American's don't like it) is because it's creative. Unlike most American major sports (Football, Basketball & Baseball), you don't have timeouts and plays being called - players being told what to do non-stop. In Soccer, it's a free flowing creative sport where you practice strategies but on the field players have to decide for themselves in real time what to do in order to win.
That's the beauty of Soccer and why American's who are used to being told what to do predictably (hey, it's first & goal, let's run 3 straight times up the middle because the coach said so!!!!) don't like it. Too much creativity and flow.
predisposed dislike is a factor, but it's small. I think the biggest ingredient to liking a sport is first having played it, 2nd rooting for a team for an amount of time. Both take certain effort, that is why americans can't really get into it, or why foreigns can't get into football.
yes, but in the 50s and 60s the games might have been more entertaining with scores of 6-4 and 4-3
it's prone to human error, I'd say about 15% of offside calls are probably erroneous. and those errors can win/lose a gamewhats wrong with the offsides rule, its legit imo
Nonsense. The number of changes in possession would probably be the same...likewise people dont get whiplash from watching tennis. Your understanding of peripheral vision is lacking.
The truth is its a useless rule that really s up the game.
Imagine football if you couldnt catch a pass if you were behind your opponent when the ball was thrown. Imagine what our reaction would be:
"WHAT THE ?!!! Who the cares if youre behind your opponent? Fight for position! Get your ass back! Play the ing game!"
Just a horrific analogy. In Football the defensive players start way back from the offensive players. In your analogy, it would be more akin to the wide receiver before the ball was snapped, standing behind their defensive counterpart then being able to catch.
Not to mention they have offsides in football too![]()
comparing tennis court to soccer fieldHave you ever been in a soccer stadium? try sitting in the middle and look at both goals sides constantly.
once again you cannot compare football to soccer. 2 different animals. Soccer is free flowing and designed as chess battle. Opponents need to start on opposite sides. Imagine you starting a chess match with your tower next to the opponent queen?Imagine football if you couldnt catch a pass if you were behind your opponent when the ball was thrown.
btw, the offside rule is you cannot "start" a pass with your forwards behind enemy lines. If you have fast enough forwards that can get behind enemy lines after you started the pass, it's a legit play. (isn't that the same in football?)
No it would actually be equivalent to a WR being ahead of a DB pre-snap. Soccer is non-stop for 45 minutes so the rule kinda serves the same purpose that lining up prior to a play in football serves.
and this is the reason why I and probably rest of the world cannot get into football. The ridiculous waiting for the lining up before every play is insane. before every ing play, it's akin to playing a nice song and pausing it for 2 minutes after every verse![]()

Lining up doesnt give the defense an unfair advanatge the way the off-sides rule does. In football, if you are faster than your defender, you can run RIGHT BY HIM and not even worry if the ball has been passed yet.
Imagine BASKETBALL if you couldnt receive a pass if you were behind your opponent when the ball was thrown?
Once again, its a stupid ing rule. You guys enjoy. THe rest of us will miss the 1-1 snooze-fest where defenses are given an artificial advantage.
Are you serious. If in Soccer, the forward had to line up even with everyone in front of the defense there would be no offsides.
That made absolutely no sense.
Something else that doesnt make sense: Soccer is a supposedly "free flowing" game (unlike football) yet it has this "offsides" rule that absolutely stops where you can go and who you can pass to.
ing. Stupid.
