Lining up doesnt give the defense an unfair advanatge the way the off-sides rule does. In football, if you are faster than your defender, you can run RIGHT BY HIM and not even worry if the ball has been passed yet.
again, in football you stop after every play. You cannot seriously compare the 2.

Imagine BASKETBALL if you couldnt receive a pass if you were behind your opponent when the ball was thrown?
except this is not basketball it's soccer. what about hockey offsides, do you think that's dumb too? it's the same principle

Once again, its a stupid ing rule. You guys enjoy. THe rest of us will miss the 1-1 snooze-fest where defenses are given an artificial advantage.
not a stupid rule. It's not perfect and prone to human error, but soccer with offside rules is a lot better than the comedic mess soccer without would be.

    That made absolutely no sense.

Something else that doesnt make sense: Soccer is a supposedly "free flowing" game (unlike football) yet it has this "offsides" rule that absolutely stops where you can go and who you can pass to.

    ing. Stupid.
every free flowing sport including basketball, hockey, rugby, etc has rules and game stoppages, otherwise it'd be a jumbled mess

    Nonsense.

Basketball has rules such as you cant foul. I have no problems with soccer penalizing for fouls. But penalizing a player for passing to another player on the same team because that players position relative to another player for absolutely no reason is absolutely not "free flowing".

In basketball, you can pass to anyone, anytime and anywhere (inside the court). Yet we dont have multiple players camping out under the basket.

Its ing stupid and it gives the defense an unfair advantage and this is why scores are so ridiculously low.

But if you enjoy artificial advantages and hours of NOTHING HAPPENING, then by all means watch your soccer!!

    Ciao!

I'm gonna have to disagree. Again, without offside in soccer, forwards would just camp near the goals and game would consist of kicking the ball from one end of the field to the other without any midfield game (which is the strongest aspect of soccer), and without much strategy. It would be awful to watch such a sport.

The offside rule has the same purpose as the 3 seconds rules, it's to prevent camping.

Is the offsides rule any different from "3 seconds in the lane". That's not allowed in basketball. Otherwise people would camp under the basket.

and this is the reason why I and probably rest of the world cannot get into football. The ridiculous waiting for the lining up before every play is insane. before every ing play, it's akin to playing a nice song and pausing it for 2 minutes after every verse
Yeah, but that's because there's actual strategy involved in American football in choosing the plays to run, the formations, presnap shifts, etc.... it's not a cheap-ass third world "sport" of kicking a ball around and still not scoring any goals.....

I actually love The World Cup but never really watch soccer outside of that. I'll be dissapointed if team USA isn't in the WC. Admit it, if team USA was dominating you would be watching that and sporting Donovan jerseys. You know that in Koolaid would be a Brazil fan no matter what since he only likes front running teams and Clippers Nation would like Uruguay because of the way it sounds.
The World Cup has a different atmosphere.

Its like watching a sport in the summer olympics you would otherwise not watch if it wasn't because its an event that occurs every 4 years.

Except a couple of key differences:

    1) This rule exists on offense and defense. You cant stand in the lane on offense or defense for more than three seconds. In soccer, there is no "defensive off-sides". Thus the unfair advantage to the team with the lead.

    2) The NBA rule indicates you cant "camp out" in a given area of the court. It has nothing do with the position of your defenders.

    3) If an NBA team wanted to, they could still "camp out" outside the lane all they want. The real reason the three second rule exists isnt to prevent "camping" but to prevent extremely large players (like Shaq) from completely dominating every game. Maybe that too is a dumb rule, but in no way the three second rule interrupts the flow of the game the way offsides interrupts soccer.

as someone else said, soccer is more creative than football as it involves players using their brains rather than following coaches directions. it's just a more beautiful sport plain and simple.

Saying American Football has strategy. American Football quite easily has the worst coaching in all of sports. Not only are they stuck in the stone ages, they lack any creativity at all. That's why when one random coach actually goes for it on fourth down he's lauded as some kind of wild gun slinger and why announcers say things like "you can't do x because of momentum" even though it's quite clearly the correct call.

Yeah, quite a few coaches are overconservative, but even the most pussy conservative playbook contains more strategy than "kick ball, miss goal, repeat," tbh....

No. That would be like watching Checkers (American Football) & saying it has more strategy than Chess (Real Football) because you get to hop all around the board and stack checkers on top of each other when you're "kinged"

DPG is off base and out of his element. Just because he doesn't understand some of the more complex strategies involved in American football, doesn't mean those strategies aren't employed.

Both soccer and American football involve a wide range of complex strategies and formations. I'm not really sure you can say one is more involved than the other.

I most definitely understand football (I had a better betting record and dropped more truth bombs than nearly any poster over the past two years in there). I never said there werent strategies. I said the strategies employed are from the stone ages and lack creativity.
