Why do Republicans talk about beastiality so much?

The opponents against same sex marriage almost universally do it on religious grounds and reference gods intention for heterosexual union. Thus the religious fixation on couple.

I think that it is safe to assume that supporters of same sex marriage aren't bound to the traditional model of heterosexual couples.

They could certainly be bound to the traditional model of married couples.

Again, it comes down to justification of position. The exact same arguments can be made for polygamy as can be made for same sex unions. Quit ignoring the hypocrisy.

It's entirely possible supporters of same sex marriage for couples don't even think about polygamy and or don't care. It's not hypocrisy to act in one's self interest alone and rather stupid to assume everyone is considering every type of marriage here.

fringe element? The people I've quoted include the guy who gave Romney the biggest run for his money during the 2012 Republican primary. Sorry, but the opinions about sexuality in the OP are much closer to mainstream Republican views than you're admitting.

He got 20% of the popular vote during the Republican primary and 10% of the delegates, 2nd to only Romney in both areas. His views on gay marriage being comparable to beastiality are totally mainstream Republican views, hence why the greater majority of Republicans are against gay marriage.
