Google and the City of Austin, Texas have sent out invites for a press conference for "a very important announcement" next week, according to VentureBeat, and it is expected that the two will reveal that the city will be the next to receive Google Fiber. VentureBeat cites "multiple sources" that tell the website that the announcement will revolve around Google's gigabit internet service, but it's possible that the event will reveal some other partnership, like a new Google campus.
Right behind ya.
Honestly, as amazing as it is, I'm thrilled with my internet right now and I don't really pine for anything better. Of course if GF came to the Bay I'd buy it in a heartbeat but as for now, I'm pretty happy with how fast mine is currently.
This is the ish we have at the office... can't really complain, tbh

who cares about speed, whats important are the cap size
Everyone else in the world.
No cap. lol.
100mb connection is good enough for todays standards, wtf is going to fully utilize 1gb connection?
The only thing I wish would be better about my connection is my ping, 100mb is indeed fast enough.
The reason that no one can use a 1gb connection is because no one wants to create a product for non-existing infrastructure. Remember web pages in the 90s that were all text because even a lot of photos took up bandwidth? As soon as the bandwidth increased, so did the content. I'm not saying that suddenly 300mb webpages will spring up overnight, but now that the foundations are being laid, it's going to happen eventually.

AT&T announces plans for 1Gbps fiber service in Austin, Texas; Google gets immediate compe ion![]()
Isn't TWC and Grande Com. in Austin too? I can't believe all that is happening less than 80 miles from me like a big tease.![]()
lol
But more compe ion the better for us I suppose, yada yada
Austin game servers are going to be pretty bad ass
I wonder if gigabit ATT could mean that U-verse wouldn't be so horribly compressed. That might be worth it.
just like HD content the tv stations dont wanna upgrade their own infrastructure, delivering lower bit rate HD content..its fkn horse ....
Don't use Google, pay more at ATT and be capped!. Yeah Grande has fiber with 100 right now in some parts of Austin.
Didn't ATT just say that there was no market for 1Gbps?
LOL, WTF is the point of speed with caps. Wow, look, my internet is fast the first week of every month!
Fixed for fiber speeds.
lol only australia has such a ty cap usage. i pay out of my ass for that so i cant stream or download anything. pos country.
