Exactly. Which is what he should be doing on this current team, but he's not. All his talk about retiring is simply positioning the media so he can get a long-term extension. Problem is, LA is trying to re-sign Dwight right now. And Bryant can't stand any talk about anybody other than him, so he's yakking about retiring. Believe me, he's already working all this behind the scenes. Mitch knows that Dwight hates Bryant's guts (as do all his teammates except for Artest, who's too stupid to get it). But if Bryant can convince Dwight to re-sign, in Mitch's mind that's worth giving Bryant an extension, even if it's for crazy numbers. So what Bryant will try to do is take the credit for "talking to Dwight, getting him to understand, and re-signing with LA." And then Bryant will leverage that into a new extension for himself that will be beyond insane. Honestly, I don't see Bryant taking a paycut unless they give him a 5yr/100 mil deal, or maybe a 4yr/80 mil. That's the only way he takes a paycut....if they give him two years longer than anybody else in their right mind would give him.
