This is the type of second round gamble you go after. Kid was a top 20 player in the nation coming out of high school and though he didn't play last year in college, kids this talented just don't stop being talented. The Spurs could do much worse with a pick in the 50's.

Pretty interesting and I agree. I would love to see the Spurs scoop this kid up in the 2nd round.
Two mentions of "bad body language" and immaturity in two reviews written a year apart by two different reviewers.
Two chances that the Spurs draft him: slim and none.
You may be right...and that's why he's a late second/undrafted projection. If he was perfect personality-wise he'd be in the lottery. Second round picks are good for two things...stashes and gambles on players that are potentially damaged but also potentially high reward(see Blair, Dejuan). This kid is the latter IMO. Immature and uncoachable? Perhaps. Ultra talented? Absolutely. You bank on the latter while hoping the former works itself in the growing up process while using a low risk asset.
US players, especially young ones, resist the Euro stash route, so that leaves him trying to make our packed talented mature roster, essentially out of high school. That would be a wasted pick.
Most of them don't make the roster. Blair was an exception and no one knows if Hanga or Bertans will will ever make it. Gist, Richards, McClinton, Denmon...the second round pick list is long with players that will never be Spurs. That's why they are second round picks. You see something in a player and gamble on it...knowing full well there is a better than average chance that things won't work out. You bring him in and see what's there. If he's the real deal you find a way to get him on the roster and develop him a la Joseph. If Europe is suggested and he won't go you cut him and move on.
Such is life with second round picks.
Second round picks ARE longshots, so you should take the best "shot" you can. The ones that have made the roster, eventually, are either Euro stashes like DeColo, or collegians like Blair. I think the Spurs would be more likely to go either of those routes instead of what is essentially a HS kid.
There's a lot of talent out there. I think for the system Pop has put into place, the initial look is whether the player has something to offer. Talent.
This is not unlike the initial start of a relationship with a girl... whether she is even attractive to you. But that is just the initial point. When you talk to her, then you decide if she is going to be worth the time you would put in for a relationship. Spurs are about relationships. Not one night stands.
So while this kid may be amazing in the talent department, he's not the type you'd start a relationship with. By the time a person becomes an adult, they don't really change. If they have at ude problems, they aren't going to go away. Not in the first years in the league at least. They are who they are. You determine if they are Spur material based on who they are, not who we think we can make them become (personality and at ude-wise).
Talent can be developed, even improved. Lack of focus, laziness, no motor, etc come from between the ears. You don't change that very much. They are who they are in that respect.
I think you start by picking someone who has the qualities that would make for a good relationship, then invest and see if the talent matures to the point of whether they can fill a role on the team.
Again...you are probably right from a Spurs MO perspective. But if one is going to gamble on a HS kid it's not necessary a bad gamble when you are talking about a former top ten Rivals prospect. Just as much low risk/high reward(perhaps very high) as a flawed college player or a euro stash(as evidenced by the percentage of recent ones that actually ever play for the Spurs).
Just saying I wouldn't be opposed if the pick did happen...for stated reasons.
Eh...not in this draft. It blows for the most part outside of the early first round. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Spurs go Euro on both picks.

Entering the NBA draft combine in Chicago, everyone was talking about Ricky Ledo out of Providence. Executives wanted to meet with him, scouts wanted to evaluate him, reporters wanted to interview him and opposing players wanted to size him up.
The 20-year-old’s draft stock has been on the rise recently, and he’s one of the most intriguing – and mysterious – players in the class.
Ledo has never played a second of college basketball. He practiced with Providence last year, his freshman season, but he wasn’t able to play in any games because he was ruled ineligible by the NCAA.
Even though he’s unproven, he has the game and frame to play in the NBA, and teams lined up to interview and schedule workouts with him while in Chicago. At the combine, he interviewed with nearly half of the league, and he’ll meet with even more teams over the next month. He has already had individual workouts out for the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls, and has many others on his calendar.

Or some team might want to jump into the late-first to take him in front of teams at the top of the second. The Spurs' pick may have just gotten more valuable...

And you know this how? From his high school playing days? Because someone on insidehoops said so? GTFOH.
Dude, not that I agree with outlier but it seems that every single scouting report on this kid indicates access baggage wherever he goes. Cannot say too much about his actual ball skills since he has been MIA for a while. With all thats been reported I would pass since babysitters dont come cheaply these days.
