Religion and faith is, by definition, believing in something without evidence.
Once you start doing that, you open your mind's door for believing in all sorts of stupid , because it is emotionally appealing, just like belief in some unseen magic man who will make everything all better.
Even ministers who aren't deliberately fleecing their flock of willing sheep, will start rationalizing their lifestyle. "it is all part of God's plan that I have all this stuff". Again, creeping corruption of the mind, all made possible by faith.

If I had no sense of ethics, I would go into ministering to the faithful. Empty feel-good pla udes, manufactured outside threats. "Satan is out to get you, booga booga booga!!!"
