Judged and or performed on popular TV singing contest shows "American Idol" and "X Factor."
Had at least two high profile romances that have been extensively covered in the media.
Was #8 on Forbes celebrity list in 2012.
Has been on scores of magazine covers in the past two years.
All that adds up to being more well-known and popular than BB King.
