The one thing we had going for us against a group like al Qaeda was their desire for some "big' attack like 9/11. Whatever individual or group that hit a soft target like this, it might be worse in terms of the possible reaction from people and the government.
That's the thing, it shouldn't have been a "soft" target. Then again, police cant' check every trash can. This is going to have some big repercussions, for the Boston marathon, for the city of Boston, and for security in general.
Is this something that Al Qaeda usually stands up to, or do we have to investigate to find out who planted the bombs?
More devices being found...but at least they didn't go off.
You would think there would be a lot of security for an event like this, no?
This kind of attack and taking credit for it isn't their MO, but they have inspired enough individual and groups to say they could be "linked" to such an attack.
Oh my God - Just read a witness report stating dozens have feet and/or legs severed.
Yeah, there didn't seem to be much structural damage from the pics I saw. I imagine they were just loaded with homemade shrapnel.
typical is full sweep
Manholes welded
Trashcans emptied, or removed
Snipers on roofs
Copters
All night guards night before
25 miles 500k people.
There should have been, but it would be hard to find one or two bombs in trash cans. But four? Possibly more? Not sure how at least one wasn't found. They definitely need to review the security procedures.
The problem is, with an event this size, is that TONS of people are tossing stuff in trash cans. You hide the bomb in some container, and throw it out, then it detonates either due to a timer or you have a remote detonator, maybe a cell phone. But if there were multiple devices, that means either really good pre-planning, or multiple people.
I mean who would be su ious of someone walking around a marathon with a duffelbag. I'm sure it was done near the finish for maximum press impact; It could have been worse for casualties had they done it sooner in the race or had the devices away from buildings that took a lot of the blast.
Authorities ID suspect as Saudi national in marathon bombings - he is being guarded in Boston hospital
I'm shocked
Why do they hate us?![]()
Well, Darrin started in already, but is there an over-under on when this thread goes full partisan?
Could you hold off being a prick for maybe a few hours?
The prick is the one blowing up innocent bystanders.
apparently the BPD is saying about the report of the 20 year old saudi that "I don't know where that report is coming from, we have no such person in custody"
Agreed, but would it behoove you to keep from the sarcasm, you know, until they at least finish picking up the body parts?
