    Disagree on both counts.

A franchise that has won 4 championships isn't a desperate franchise. A desperate franchise is the Dallas Mavs doing everything they can to finally win a ring in 2011 and don't resign Chandler and others to try to repeat. That's desperate.

The move isn't desperate either. There was a need and he was the best option in order to have a player for the playoffs. It's actually a low risk/high reward move. And that's isn't desperate to me.
McGrady is finished as an NBA player. if he wasn't he would have been on an NBA roster this year instead of playing in China. It was desperate move because there were no other options. They just put a body with NBA experience on the roster. Typical Spurs move getting washed up players and this board goes nuts with excitement.

As timvp said it's probably just an insurance policy since we're so low on bodies. He most likely won't play anyway unless Kawhi goes down.

This is as surprising as the Mike Mitc re-signing (1990) & Glenn Robinson (2005) signing by the Spurs.

8, and we all know you think 15 seasons in the NBA counts for nothing and you don't watch the games anyway, so why bother trying to explain anything to you?
And playing 50+ games isn't enough to even garner a small backup role. Right. Just stfu already.

The way I understood it, the Spurs wanted him here at the beginning of the season... He CHOSE to go to China, make more, play in front of all the fans he had made from the Yao era Rockets, and save his body some in a less taxing league, and probably eyed signing with a contender at the end like this.... I could be wrong tho. Anybody got that happening differently??

    Again, I completely disagree.

If Pop was deseperate, he would have keep Stephen Jackson and dealt with his issues even if was a detriment to the younger players.

He filled a need in the best possible situation and to get a veteran who can play 10-15 minutes a game to spell Kawhi is not desperate.
The team has been playing terribly as of late.
    2011 2.0.
There are two legitimate bigs and that's it, Bonner and Blair (who might be even hurt) are improbable in PO compe ion. They just don't belong, without Parker and Ginobili dishing.
It's not clear whether Diaw will come back this season.
Manu has been out 3 weeks, he's Manu and could come back as if nothing, but he's also 36.
Parker, well Parker really looks like someone that has had 3 weeks off since Dec 2011 (which is the reality).
There is simply no legitimate back-up point guard.
In theory, 3, but in reality, none.
They will most likely face the Lakers, and hence some of Stern's cronies.

All this is absolutely amazing, considering that the Spurs have again played the best team basketball of the league in Jan/Feb.

McGrady, a team basketball player he is not.

    Timvp,

I disagree. I think he will see some minutes in the playoffs. I can see a scenario in the 2nd unit in a 5 to 8 minutes section of the game. And if he's playing well....his minutes can be extended.

I don't there will be huge minutes....but in the right situation in a series, he will play.

The only bad part of this signing is the "WHY ISN'T TMAC PLAYING?!?!!?" threads that will hit the forum within a week.

I will be SHOCKED if McGrady plays a minute other than garbage time or extreme injury woes. I'll be surprised if he's in uniform.

    Way to go...

Well, he'll probably be on the active roster so I don't see how he won't get a few minutes in the playoffs.

Didn't look terrible in the Chinese highlights. If everyone played in slow motion here, we'd be champs for sure.

Well a lot would depend on how quickly Diaw and Manu comes back. You can tell Pop ain't exactly excited about having Blair and Bonner on the floor. Or Baynes (this season).
