Envelope tests positive for ricin at Washington mail facility
    Source: CNN

Washington (CNN) -- An envelope that tested positive for the deadly poison ricin was intercepted Tuesday afternoon at the U.S. Capitol's off-site mail facility in Washington, congressional and law enforcement sources tell CNN.

After the envelope tested positive in a first routine test, it was retested two more times, each time coming up positive, the law enforcement source said. The package was then sent to a Maryland lab for further testing.

The envelope was addressed to a U.S. senator, though the sources would not say which one.

Letter sent to Sen. Roger Wicker tests positive for ricin

An envelope sent to an office of Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) included a substance that has tested positive for Ricin, two sources say.

It was not immediately clear when the envelope was received or whether it was sent to his Washington, D.C., office or a field office.

So they planned to blame it on a conservative by sending the letter to a Republican senator in Mississippi who's been against stricter gun control?

    That's logical.

@ people thinking that Roger Wicker voting to end a filibuster = he is pro gun control

    http://www.wicker.senate.gov/public/...a-afb16c79ebd2

Here's a real quote from the guy about gun control:

"The President's proposals would violate the Cons ution and have been proven not to be effective in preventing gun violence,” said Wicker. “I will be part of a bipartisan coalition opposing this legislation and looking for real solutions such as school safety guards, mental health care, and addressing the culture of violence in the media. The Second Amendment rights of Americans must be preserved."

Wow, looks like a a key threat to gun rights that the government would try to victimize in a fake attack!

Now that I think about it, the Alex Jones right wing nuts are gonna see this and change their views to, "Well then it's just some lib gun control nazi going after a politician who wants to protect gun rights." That's why they start off by calling it a conspiracy theory, so either way they can demonize liberals after we receive more details.

Funny how nobody credits the USPS for intercepting two attacks now. The bomb to America's Favorite Sheriff, and now to a US senator.

The U.S. Postal Service spends about $100 million annually to screen every piece of first-class mail sent or received by U.S. households and mail sent to federal addresses in Washington, say officials familiar with the process.
Mail destined for the White House, Congress and federal agencies requires closer scrutiny. In the past, postal officials have said that once mail with federal addresses is sorted at a Washington facility, it is trucked it to a New Jersey irradiation facility operated by a private firm operating medical sterilization equipment. The Postal Service spends about $12 million annually on irradiation, say officials familiar with the process.

If more reporters knew of that, there would be less wild speculation like in the OP:
It was not immediately clear when the envelope was received or whether it was sent to his Washington, D.C., office or a field office.

The off-site facility that screens mail will be closed for several days for further testing and examination by federal investigators, delaying delivery of mail to the Capitol and Senate office buildings.
    Oh ....

Preliminary reports often get details wrong.

You'd give Fox News a pass.

So they are wrong, because they are speculating, right?

If not, what do you call it?
