Video in link.
MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell made the case this evening that the National Rifle Association is to blame for the slow investigation into the Boston bombings:
"There are new developments tonight in the bombing investigation here in Boston," said O'Donnell. "But that investigation could be moving faster were it not for the successful lobbying efforts of the National Rifle Association. The NRA's efforts to guarantee that American mass murderers are the best-equipped mass murders in the world is not limited to murderers who use assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. The NRA is also in the business of helping bombers get away with their crimes. Gunpowder could be traced by investigators to a buyer at the point of sale if gunpowder contained a taggant, an element that would enable tracing of the purchase of gunpowder. But thanks to the National Rifle Association, identification taggants are required by law only in plastic explosives. The NRA has successfully blocked any requirements for such taggants in gunpowder. So such supremely helpful evidence as taggants are not available to the FBI in this investigation."
The bombings took place at Monday's marathon.
unsurprising. the tabloidization of American journalism proceeds apace.
This is to be expected from MSNBC.
Is anyone surprised?
msnbc and they wonder why there ratings suck
Sensational for sure, but what is the logic of blocking tagging to enable tracing gun powder back to the purchaser? There does appear to be a nugget of truth in the analysis, no?
artfully shaded, but sure, some rational basis does exist for O'Donnell's stagy metaphor. so what?
I find it amusing there is no analysis from the OP or the weekly standard attempting to debunk Larry's point. It's just, hey look at this sensational journalism...but lets not actually look at the elements of truth. As journalism goes, it's more ty than Larry's piece tbh.
your lame excuses notwithstanding, the factual basis of the metaphor in no way attenuates its inflammatory impact, which was no doubt intended, or its opportunism, which I guess was instinctive. It's just, hey look at this sensational journalism...but lets not actually look at the elements of truth.

MSNBC does more at udinizing than news these days. the OP is symptomatic.
I'm not making excuses for Larry's sensationalism. In fact, I referred to it as ty.
you emphasized its truthful basis. ha.
And? ty, sensationalist, yet accurate journalism.
you can keep it. /sack scenario.

Meh. I don't want it. I was just pointing out what the op and the weekly standard seemed to disregard, which is that the effects of the NRAs lobbying effort have actually made it more difficult to trace gun powder to the purchaser.
stop watching tv. i havent in years.
(besides sports)
ever since do entary channels and news outlets started going for sensationalism to misinform the public in exchange for ratings, i quit.
igorant tea baggers (redundancy alert) blame Boston on Barry. what a surprise!
Tea Party Nation's Toxic Response to The Boston Marathon Bombing
Judson Phillips’ Tea Party Nation would certainly have been better than even money.
In an email to members -- and in an article posted on the Tea Party Nation website -- Phillips blamed President Obama for the Boston Marathon bombing maintaining that it occurred because “we have a government that is not committed to protecting America” since it isn’t willing to “destroy radical Islam.”
People for the American Way’s Right Wing Watch reported that “Phillips said that ‘Radical Islam and perhaps even non-radical Islam’ is a danger to western civilization, arguing that Muslims believe that ‘non-Islamic nations may be conquered or otherwise taken over.’”

Ted Nugent Compares Heroic First Responders In Boston To The NRA
National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent claimed the heroic response to the Boston Marathon bombings "represents" the NRA before attacking the "anti-Americanism" of the Obama administration for allegedly seeking to eliminate the Second Amendment.
Nugent's comments occurred during the April 16 broadcast of NRA News where he described the heroics of people who ran towards the scene of the bombings before claiming "that represents what the NRA is":
NUGENT: Those uniformed heroes of the military charged in with the uniformed heroes of law enforcement, the first responders, the EMTs, and quite relative to my opening statement today, citizens, just people, American citizens knowing that two bombs had gone off, limbs had been blown off of peoples' bodies, massive amounts of blood and terror and trauma. And where did civilians and heroes of professional organizations and law enforcement and military, where did they run? Straight into the danger. That's the America that I pray every day that represents what the NRA is.
Nugent then said that Americans "will charge into the most dangerous times when the top officials in the American government really want to eliminate the Second Amendment" and claimed that "anti-Americanism" exists in the Obama administration:
NUGENT: It's families, it's mom and pop America, working hard playing hard America who understand what makes America special and unique that the U.S. Cons ution and the Bill of Rights is the guiding light to the greatest quality of life in the history of the world and we will charge into the most dangerous times when the top officials in the American government really want to eliminate the Second Amendment, when [Sen.] Dianne Feinstein [D-CA] says I would take away all of their guns if I could. She said it on film, Cam.Nugent's use of the heroics of the Boston Marathon bombing as a platform to attack the Obama administration comes a week after he said on NRA News that not enough was done to stop the reelection of President Obama before asking, "When I kick the door down in the enemy's camp, would you help me shoot somebody?" Nugent clarified that his reference to shooting people was "a metaphor" and that he was "not recommending shooting anybody."
CAM EDWARDS, HOST: Yeah.
NUGENT: Where the Attorney General [Eric Holder] says we need to brainwash people. I know that that kind of anti-Americanism exists, but why can't we communicate with those who we oppose on the gun control issue, on the tax issue, on the court system, on the welfare issue, ad nauseum? Why can't we somehow, and I believe we can if we continue to communicate and turn up our activism heat, why can't we create an America that is united constantly like we're united when terror strikes?
Nugent also criticized a proposal to expand background checks on gun sales created by Sens. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV), claiming that it is "the rudest thing we can do on the graves of those dead innocent victims of mass murder because it's not addressing anything that will save lives in the future":
