KK81, see, you get the all wrong. I am not saying Pau is this transcendental superstar who would will his teams to championships like a Jordan, Shaq, Hakeem or Duncan. He obviously needs help.
Having the best 2nd banana in league history was important.
Having one of the best coaches in league history was obviously important.
Having a versatile SF/PF hybrid who can handle the ball, shoot from outside, and is a general nightmare matchup for any other team was important.
Having a steady hand in Fisher was important.
Having good perimeter defenders in MWP/Artest/Ariza was important.
That's why nobody will ever call Pau a top 10 player, or even top 20, because he needed all this help.
Also, he had quite a few failures when he did NOT have all this help, and it counts as well.
Was Pau great? Depends on how you define great. I tend to think he is. He led his team to two les. He led the Spanish team to unexpected success. But he is most definitely not one of the best ever.
You have to give credit where credit is due, 16/16/6 games with a perimeter that bad is a good game, if not great. There are no two ways about it.
