I'm okay with Marc Gasol winning the award. But Tim not even recognized in top 5 is just plain stupid.

Camby takes a lot of heat. But IMHO he was a good defender. Honestly the Nuggets were a terrible Defensive team. Camby's award in similar to the Duncan situation. Mediocre Defensive teams with one good Defensive big. Sad part is Camby got the award on a worse Defensive team. Tim is clearly a better Defensive player than Camby as well, with the Spurs being a better Defensive team than the Nuggets. Duncan just got hosed this year. That is absolutely the only way to look at it. Even if we are being homers, Tim was the better defensive player.
The Nuggets weren't even a top ten defense the year Camby won. In fact, Denver's defense IMPROVED when he left and Nene became the defensive anchor. Spurs this year are a top ten defense. I don't see how the situations are comparable.

You are actually right lol. The more of my post I wrote, I started to see there weren't many similarities at all. The only thing similar is I feel they were both good Defensive bigs on mediocre Defensive teams.

Mediocre? Aren't the Spurs 3rd in defense this year? That can't be attributed only to Tim (however much I like him).

Pippen never won the award, and its difficult to argue he wasn't the best ever wing defender.

Let's save the outrage about Timmy not being in the top five until we actually know this is the case, tbh...

Duncan being one of the best defensive players ever and never getting this award... should tell you all need to know about this award. It's an award for scrubs like Camby, Chandler, Wallace or even Bowen... who have little to no recognition outside of this and will never contend for the real award (MVP). It's a consolation prize. In other words, Duncan is too good to be of DPOY caliber. Giving it to him would almost be a slap in the face.
I remember once reading in a Zach Lowe article that KG's minutes hurt his All-Star case. Duncan's minutes hurt his MVP case.

And, really, this is the San Antonio Spurs. Who gives a hoot? NBA le or bust. DPOY les don't mean jack.
I'm pretty sure Timmy prefers his 3 Finals MVPs to his two season MVPs.

The NBA coaches vote on the NBA All-Defensive Team each year. The top 5 vote-getters make the First Team. Tim Duncan holds the NBA record for the most total selections with 13.

The fact that Bowen or TD NEVER won the award in the 03'-08' years is pretty damn sad. But, that's the media for you....

Tbh Ben Wallace deserved those DPOYs. Camby didn't, though.

It's a media award. There was a time in the last few years when the DPOY didn't even make the coach-voted NBA ALL Defense first team.

    awards are so important
You have a favorite player and you like to see them get the recognition you think they deserve... there's nothing wrong with that, imho.

Ya'll are acting like this is a surprise. Prolly gonna be a meltdown when no one on the Spurs makes an All-NBA team this year too.
No both Tim and Tony will be on 1 of the 3.. It's basically impossible for that not to happen..

NO. They were number 3, until the final few weeks. Their D dropped to 11th to finish the year, which tells you they really stunk towards the end.

Duncan is one of the best big men to ever play D the DPOY means nothing. 8 times he was first team all D and 5 times he was 2nd team and he'll make one of those 2 teams again this year..

Thank you. Especially for a player that is nearing the end and has never got an award he deserves. You know what other award is pretty nice, a Larry O'brien trophy.

Sucks that Duncan didn't get it this year, but it is stunning that he has never won the award. The fact that no Spur won it during our years of defensive dominance just shows the award is a joke.
