Wow, this "name" bias is getting more blatant by the minute. Lebron probably told him, "wah, wah, I'm gonna tell daddy Stern and when he finds out what you did, he's gonna fire you!" Ref: "Oh, I'm sorry...I don't know what the is wrong with me. I'll reverse your technical. Would you like to my wife after the game, too?" Lebron: "Oh, ok! Thanks!" Dude can stab any ref in Game 3 and then say it was the ref's fault because he slipped into his knife ten times and they'll let it go. Seriously, when was the last time a ref EVER reversed a technical? Even MJ never had a tech reversed.
and this is why today's NBA sucks
the pussyfication of the league
Imagine if Kobe played with Bill Cartwright, who grabbed MJ one day and threatened to break his legs
Bible Kemp would never do that
And yet TD gets T'd up for ing laughing.
Lebron didn't finish in the top 5 in FTAs this year, despite shooting more in the paint than 4 of the 5 guys ahead of him, tbh..
So, are you trying to argue Stern hasn't made it so the league is Lebron's personal playground where he can say and do whatever he wants with no consequence? It's more than just FTAs that cons ute extreme bias toward a team or player.
Op, this happens in the ATandT too.
Lebron fan doesn't take into account that Stern basically gifted Lebron a finals berth for 5-6 years by allowing the super team to form in such a weak conference. I don't do conspiracies nor do I subscribe to them like a lot of people do on this board but it's obvious what's happening. Lebron will win multiple les until he's tired of doing so.
One argument that will always kill Stern's credibility in regards to Lebron's "The Decision" will be the one dealing with CP3's trade to the Lakers. I'm not a Laker fan by any stretch of the imagination nor do I support that made franchise but Stern basically cancelled the trade that would've sent CP3 to form a superteam with the Lakers. A team like that with CP3 would've easily been favorites to come out of the West and challenge Miami with their size and talent alone.
His response was that he was doing it in the best interest of the team. As an NBA fan, that's absolute horse partner. What about the best interests of teams like Toronto and Cleveland? These are teams that will be mired in unless a superstar like Lebron joins.
Looking back at that bizarre time, Stern most definitely wanted to establish the Heat as the dominant team of this decade just like the Bulls in the 90's. The league will milk out whatever comes out of this "dynasty" and hopefully through all that we'll have a shot at defeating those assholes from Miami. It's just hard seeing that happen anytime soon, but a fan's gotta believe ehh, partner?
basically both sides are right. Harlem Heat is right that players get more physical with Lebron than other superstars. It's actually refreshing the amount of contact he plays through. but, on a whole, the league is pussified from the 80s. this is Stern's WWE vision of the NBA, for better or worse.
you believe that Stern knew Lebron's plan to join the Heat and that he was in on it?..you should have a chat with SA210, you guys would have a lot in common, tbh..
And then the 2nd part of your argument is that Stern wouldn't like to see the ing Lakers, the most popular franchise in the NBA, compete for a championship?..
OKC residenrt..put the meth down and take your tongue off of your sister's clit for a moment and revise your argument, tbh..
I dont think that LeBron needs biased whistles to be the best player in the league.
Yeah Lebron's relative lack of free throw respect compared to other superstars has always baffled me. It's not something I would have guessed without watching him, but that's just how it is. The eye test and virtually every stat out there suggests (you can't really prove this kind of assertion) that he gets less respect from the refs than other superstars. I've seen Lebron get hammered at the ends of 4th quarters of a tied game and get no call, whereas virtually every comparable superstar around him probably would've been shooting free throws in a similar situation.
CP3 gets anywhere from 2-4 extra free throw attempts every other game by doing his patented "drive into his defender and flail backwards at the top of the 3 point line" move. CP3's dribbling towards the right and trying to beat his man off the dribble. His man is moving towards the right. CP3 closes the gap, dribbles into him, and then flails backwards. Free throws. It's asinine.
This is the same move that gave Steve Blake game winning free throws against Golden State in the regular season (where the Lakers shot 50 free throws to Golden State's 22 or something).
You can also explain LeBron's relative lack of FTA with:
1) defenders not wanting to get posterized
2) LeBron is such a good finisher that defenders don't contest as hard, being afraid of giving up the and 1
3) Do you rather foul/hack D12 in the paint, or LeBron with his FT%?
don't get me wrong, i love a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy, but IMO you're pretty off base here.
at the time the league owned the hornets (which in itself was way more inappropriate than blocking the trade IMO), and was looking for a buyer. the original trade that got veto-ed wasn't that much better of a trade for NO. it brought back more players with longer contracts. from a basketball standpoint it wouldn't make them a playoff team. it would just make them harder to sell.
do you really think stern wasn't ing all over himself at the thought of paul in LA? but the league owning the team created an incredible conflict of interest. with all the "questionable" calls the lakers have gotten over the years, and the odd trades and such that improve the team for pennies on the dollar...he risked a whole lot of scrutiny he probably didnt want. (well, maybe no, considering the last month of the season, but thats a story for another thread).
ironically, when you think about it, the trade probably wouldn't have improved LA in the long run. they would have traded away all their bigs except bynum and his one good knee.. and while paul is a very good player, we've seen that kobe can't seem to co-exist with a true PG. laker PGs over the last decade have always tended to be spot up shooters who don't actually initiate the offense. if you thought this year's version of the lakers was a mess, imagine the lineups they would be fielding without gasol and dwight......
All of you have ty takes.
If you actually watched it live you would see that the tech deserved to be taken back. Lebron was just mad he missed the shot and jumped up and down. He then explained that to the official, and the official saw that he was sincere and he made a mistake.
Great post, especially the last part, tbh..Kobe and a ball-dominant PG would be a disaster, tbh..
Also, not only was it a bad trade for New Orleans, but they would have been a mediocre team with those players, rather than a bad team, which could have prevented them from getting Anthony Davis in the lottery, tbh..
Heres an easy solution, if you think it's that rigged, don't watch and stop frequenting basketball message boards. That easy.
Asshole comment. It's not that easy to just 'stop watching' when you've been a ing fan for decades.
There are a lot of reasons to think the NBA is rigged, but this isn't one of them. If Lebron wasn't yelling at the ref, then he shouldn't get a technical. How about acknowledging that the ref called a quick tech like that in the first place?
