So the blacks had Jackie Robinson; class act, MVP level player, key guy on a contender and the gays have Jason Collins; unemployed scrub whose main skill is flopping. I'd feel pretty gipped if I was a gay dude right now...Liberace, Ricky Martin, Clay Aiken, George Michael, and now Jason Collins... once again they get the short end of the stick

If a player with clout were to come out, I think it would force SOME players and fans to look at things froma different perspective.
If we abandon the PC world we live in ...sports is uber macho, and very phobic.
Players that are less macho are "soft", weak and #ags or s ... MJ even used a gay slander to break down Kwame.
Look at the Ruthgers coach video. Being soft right or wrong is considered a gay trait.
But if one the very best in the sport Lebron, Durant, Steph Curry, Westbrook, Achilles or CP3 were to come out while STLLL PLAYING it could help break down some of those pre-concieved notions or stereo-types. Will it change the worst of the bunch? No.
My uncle one of the most macho guys I know lettered in Football and basketball in HS had a child-hood friend that came out years later. He stopped by his house to visit with him and my uncle refused. His wife and his mom (my gran) begged him said he was being ignorant but he said "what would we have in common to talk about" and said if they went to a bar he would be picking up chicks and his friend would be hitting in the bartender. Or he would want to watch sports and his old friend soap operas. People still think of sexuals as being effeminate ..
I think having an uber-male like Lebron come out (not that he is) would help their cause ...

They giving this story way to much hype. Dude is done. He is a free agent, limited skill set and limited mobility big. He is gonna retire.Sure, he is still brave but he probably figured he was not going back in to another lockeroom anyway.
Not hating but if he did this 5 years ago I would be impressed. All this warrants is a golf clap. John Amechi already did this ... Collins just did it a bit closer to his playing days.
My guess is this dude (smart guy btw) writes a book, does Oprah, grand marshalls (do they have those?) a Pride parade etc. and Never sniffs another NBA team ...
You don't remember hearing about Travolta being sued by his alleged gay lover? That was all over the news.
I'm not sure but I believe they use sailor terminology for their parades. He'd be the captain of the parade and would have a bunch of seamen squirting around and doing his bidding.
