He's only 20 years old so he's still a baby. Look at what Dirk looked like at 20. With an NBA strength program and filling out / growing as 20 yr olds still do until about age 22 or 23 he could be 6'10" to 6'11" and 230 to 240 LBs or so depending on where his body goes. He could grow into a stretch 4 or be a Dirk Jr
Well, it's always possible but I would say it's a damn long shot. Bertans has a very narrow frame and I don't see him adding a lot of weight. He has also truly the game of a perimeter player.

I would actually like to see both adam hanga and davis bertans both come over next year and play. both these guys give us length and athleticism (especially hanga). There is a spot for bertans already as we don't have a backup SF. This kid has range and can handle the ball a little. Then for hanga, neal is a free agent and might not be resigned. especially if someone gives him a big contract. or maybe we could trade green and keep miller and bring hanga over. hanga does need to continue to work his outside shot and chip england is perfect for this. but hanga is very athletic and has good length.

Bruno, in your opinion, who currently in the nba would Bertans most resemble if he develops as hoped? Do you see him as a Gallinari type of player?

I would put him more in the Peja mold.

A 6'10 to 6'11 Peja? That would look weird. Wonder if he'll have the quicks to guard SF

Interesting to see the results of who will come over and what they will accomplish, looks like we'll all be watching a lot of Austin Toro's games.

If your pick has a bad at ude and zero NBA potential, it's a waste tbh
He athletic and big and zero risk to the team. If he pans out then its a big steal if he doesn't it then you could have it really doesn't matter. Very few second rounds make a rotation anyway, let alone someone taken that late.

SPURS really needs a mobile big in PF/SF to combat with Thunder / Heat. While Bonner has finally provided a good playoff performance, it is still against a team with low motivation and chemistry. Whether Bonner/Diaw should be retained will depend on how much SPURS is willing to spend on Spiltter and whom SPURS can acquire through draft and trade to fill this need. Bertans could be signed as a long term project to replace Bonner.
Diaw has a player option, He will be back.

I don't get the comparison between Bertans and Hanga tbh. Very different players.

It'll look just like the actual Peja, who is 6'10".

I remember posting during the '11 draft that in one night the Spurs had their best off-season in years -- getting Kawhi and Bertans in the same draft (not to mention Cory Joseph whom I wrongly thought was a reach).

Bertans looks like a budding star -- could end up the sweetest 3 point stroke in history.

My bad, I thought Peja was 6'6 or 6'7 at the most. Never remembered him being that tall but I didn't give a about the Kings either

I'm not sure how much you have seen him play but from what I've seen of him, it's a big reach to think that he will or should end up as a stretch PF. He has really the game and the body of a SF.
It's definitely debatable. It's possible he ends up as an over sized SF, with sub par physical tools, such as Dunleavy or Casspi, or an undersized PF, such as Novak or Babbitt, where in the right match-ups, his underwhelming physical tools could be hid and his strength (shooting) magnified. He could even be a combination of both. But with Leonard entrenched as a 35+ mpg SF and stretch fours being difficult to find, I suspect they gradually transition him into that role as he get's stronger.

Does this mean he'll actually be playing with the spurs next year? He sounds like another Matt Bonner. Hopefully Bonner 2.0 though...

Much better athlete than Bonner and doesn't have the same slow/low release point. Whether he'll be as deadly a 3 point shooter as Bonner in the NBA is yet to be seen. The only similarity they have in their game is their shooting range and their listed height

Probably wouldn't play next season very much or very limited depending on the offseason grabs and who stays. More than likely will be in the D-League because of his age but might impress during the offseason so who knows.

thanks for the highlight clips. The strange thing between the two is that Bertans was the one taking all the jump shots from the perimeter. Hanga, the SG was mostly doing athletic dunks which makes me wonder if he really has the outside threat necessary for a SG in the NBA.

On the other hand there is no question about Bertans ability to hit the 3. He was hitting them from way behind the arc.

I am glad the Spurs grabbed Bertans. I am concerned about his quicks defensively, however, on offense he does seem to have a quick first step that creates his shot. If he can translate that speed to reaction defensively he could be a HUGE asset for the Spurs at SF. I do not want him as a stretch 4, but I believe that he could be useful in that area against the small ball teams. He also has sneaky athleticism. It isn't the greatest, but it is much better than any current Spur not named Leonard/Baynes.

You were right to think he was a reach at the time, but it seems like promising to pick him in the first round might have been the only way for him to stay in the draft.

Dont think he is NBA ready, but solid workout with Spurs coaches surely is a good thing.
