Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford defeated Democratic businesswoman Elizabeth Colbert Busch in a special House election for South Carolina's first congressional district, despite an expansive effort among Democrats to turn the district blue for the first time in more than 30 years.Sanford, a candidate plagued by scandal after he admitted using public funds to leave the country to visit an Argentine mistress while governor in 2009, defeated 15 Republicans earlier this year to secure the party nomination. Aided by running in a solidly Republican district, Sanford overcame his past by arguing that the race was a referendum on President Barack Obama's policies, and that a vote for Colbert Busch would be synonymous with support for liberal Democrats like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.Translated: "Yeah I cheated and stole public funds, but God's cool with it now. Oh, and Obama sucks.""I've talked a lot about grace over the course of this campaign. And until you've experienced human grace as a reflection of God's grace, I don't think you really get it and I didn't get it before. I get it in a way that I never have before and I want to publicly acknowledge God's role in this. Not that he said, You're it, but what he said was, not that you will win but that you will learn," Sanford said. "I just want to acknowledge a God not just of second chances, but of third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth chances, because that is a reality of our shared humanity. I also want to say this: I am one imperfect man saved by God's grace, but one who has a conviction on the importance of doing something about the spending in Washington, D.C."

Yeah, he learned so much that he got divorced and is engaged to his mistress.![]()
So many people have cheated, or have friends who have, I don't think people really care.
Confederate racist "Christian" SC would rather vote for criminal, lying, defrauding Repug, esp one who Bible-babbles and hypocritically fakes "Christian" forgiveness, humility, than vote Dem.
racist Bible thumpers from the South such as yourself care..it's all that really matters to people like you who run on family values and despise abortions, gays, and others...the Hypocrisy of the "religuous right" is appalling...you people are reallu soul less...there are no words tbh might as well vote in a murdering rapist as apparently being a religious conservative is all that really matters
disgusting
Boutons both sides are crooks.Game s voting for this guy.
That's funny that the Dem couldn't beat him with that baggage.. The GF/fiance is pretty hot BTW.
SC Senator was Dement, who now runs VRWC propaganda mill Heritage, one SC senator still is the old lesbian.
They cared when Clinton was impeached for it.
Now here comes the part where WC comes up with random rules for when it's ok/not ok for politicians to cheat on their wives.
Pretty close. You have to say you're sorry and you have to have the appropriate political affiliations. But once you get past those two things it's all good.
LOL god steals money again and everyone's down.
Nobody is perfect, and the temptations on this earth are rather great. The "Religious right" is a very, very small segment of the right. They get far more time in the media than they deserve, because lib journalists like pointing them out.
I am only saying, there is nothing unexpected about people excusing some natural human activity.
I'm surprised lib s like yourself don't get this, or is it only you lib s that are allowed to excuse unethical actions?
They cared because Clinton lied under oath. They cared because Clinton didn't have the integrity to be honest about it.
Sanford lied to his staff, lied to SC assholes, and used SC tax money to go his .
Did he lie under oath in a manner that impugned the reputation of another?
Isn't travel paid for a governor even for personal travel?
They cared long before Clinton ever testified under oath. That's how Clinton ended up having to testify under oath in the first place.
That's because of the Jones case being dismissed for questionable reasons. It raised eyebrows, and became a political weapon.
You're having quite a debate against yourself.
It's...South Carolina. They'd vote for a convicted child molester before a Democrat.
