    $128 million roster

San Antonio is dirt poor, it can't afford a $128 million roster.
    Scooping that low.

    Dat ass still hurt?

Well it is true, you can't argue against facts, period. Just like I can't argue the fact the Spurs just swept the Lakers, it is what it is.

With that sort of payroll they could have afforded to keep Scola and it would be Duncan 8, Kobe 3.

Teams spend money porportionate to their income. Lakers bring in 500M a year and that doesn't include the 5B tv deal. It only make sense that we have the highest payroll. You're lucky that the salary cap is so low, it helps pay Tim Duncan's pathetic salary when we pay taxes. With that extra income, Duncan and Manu don't have to cross over the border to Mexico to take "odd" jobs

    5-year Average Profit: $38 million

Los Angeles' profit margin has been shrinking over the past few seasons thanks to increased player costs, but the team was still one of the five most profitable in the league last year.

    500 million a year
Worth mentioning is that this article was written before the 2012 off-season spending spree. The Lakers probably managed a small profit this year or broke even. If they go into the 200 million dollar territory next season, they'll be operating at a loss. And you can bet Jimmy is highly concerned about that.

Income is not the same as profit idiot.

They seat 15,000 people at staples. Average ticket for a laker home game is $200. That's 3M not including concessions and parking. 3M * 41 games= 123M

Then you have all of the laker sponsors like Jack in the box, Taco Bell, etc... Then you have revenue sharing from jersey sales and TNT, ABC, ESPN contracts and NBA.com and the income from League Pass at the end of the year that they recieve to offset their tax penalty. It could be close to 700M to be honest. All that doesn't include the 5B tv deal and the concessions and parking AND the events they make money from because they OWN staples.

You all have this illusion of poor franchises. They're all billionaires except the busses. Spurs could go over the cap, but they aren't committed to excellence. They just got lucky with getting Duncan. They keep giving him contracts because they know they won't be getting anymore stars. The busses always try to put the best product on the floor. The more they spend on great players the more they can charge because they know fans will pay almost ANYTHING to see the lakeshow.

You didn't specify "gross" or "net," Trayvon. You said "bring in," which typically means "profit" in the informal sense.

Before the TV deal (which is worth 3 billion over 20 years), the Lakers' yearly gross was 214 million (http://www.forbes.com/lists/2010/32/...rs_320250.html). Add the 150 million from the TV deal on top of that, and the Lakers still fall way short of "500 million per year not counting the TV deal."

Not surprised you weren't aware of the Lakers financial situation. Black people and finances mix together about as well as oil and water, or Dwight Howard and a post move. Stick to dancing, rapping, and running from the police.

What's this "busses" plural..it's Jim Buss that makes the decisions now..the rest function in a check cashing capacity while Jimbo handles the big decisions..one man brain trust, and what a brain it is..
