I thought this thread was supposed to be about how the Spurs choked? Somehow, someway, it became Laker related.

I get it now. The Lakers' is a pacifier for mid. Everytime he brings up anything negative about them (after a Spur loss) it makes him feel all tingly inside.

    What happened in the playoffs?

No one gave a about David Robinson's 71 point game or quad double when he got toasted in the playoffs.

Here's where you say Kobe had no help.

Closeout game 5 against the Suns:

Kobe: 34 points on 13-33 shooting with 6 TOs.

Odom: 33 points on 12-21 shooting, 10 boards.

Kobe also had only one assist. He wasn't getting other players involved.
So one game means he wasn't the best player? SMH

How many moral victories is that for Lakerfan this year?

Guess it's time to give you yet another banner in addition to:::

Spurfan: "Tim Duncan was the best player in 2007"

Duncan's own coach: "Kobe is the most talented on both sides"

Because of the other teams positions. The Bulls made the Playoffs with a 30-52 record the year before. Yeah 30-52.
Jordan broke his foot that year. He played 18 games team was 9-9 when he played. 21-43 without him.

Yeah I know but I was just saying that position matters - the year, the conference, the other teams. For example the 8th seed in the WC in 2010 was 50-32.

    Regular season performances.
Ugh....okay? What else is he supposed to do when he's stuck with crap?

2008 when he actually had a team he averaged 30-6-6 and and a choke away from possibly winning it all.

It wasn't even that one game. Just because Kobe averaged a whole bunch of points and had 50 point games doesn't mean he was the best player in the league. He was the league's best scorer, but 4 players had a higher PER than him during the regular season, including Dirk who was the league MVP. What argument is there that Kobe was the best player? He scored a bunch of points on a bad team? T-Mac's been there and done that. Player and analyst opinions? Nothing Kobe did those two years was transcendent outside of his 81 point game or the 62 vs. Dallas.

You are WAY too preoccupied with PPG and scoring.

All BS aside, when all is said and done Kobe will go down as a top 10 player by just about everyone outside of hater fans.

This doesn't mean that Tim Duncan will not go down as a top 10-12 player of all time, this simply is about Kobe Bryant. I think both guys are a dying breed of old school tough players and you have to give them their due. Personally speaking, after seeing this new breed of whiney gots like Westchimp and Lebron it makes me greatly appreciate guys like Tim Duncan and Kobe so much more for always being in love with their craft.

Enjoy them fellas, once they are gone, the new breed of players are gonna be such divas that you will be wishing Kobe was still around to hate compared to this got tbh

5-6 rpg, 5 apg, 2 spg, elite defense, great playmaking in 08. Complete game, no weaknesses, range from everywhere, can defend best player, ect. Like Popovich said, the most talented player on both sides.

Shot selection. Ball handling (why Kobe is prone to high turnover games). Man defense (Kobe hasn't played great on the ball defense for an entire game since '02. I have no clue how he constantly made the All NBA Defensive teams after that year. His ball denial defense was still elite at that point and he did pester the opposing team's best player in crunch time, so I guess that's the reason). Gambles for steals too much. Streaky from 3.

    Every player's game has weaknesses.

"Amare Stoudemire is the best big in the league."

    - Shaq

"Michael Jordan would average 60 in today's game."

    - Larry Brown

"Klay Thompson and Steph Curry are the best shooting back court of all-time."

    - NBA "analysts" and players the world over after 8 games into the 2012-13 playoffs.

NBA luminaries say stupid all the time when they get caught up in the moment. You act like they're not human and aren't prone to hyperbole or exaggeration.

Wade was the better player to me in '06. Dirk was better in '07 (in the regular season).

Wrong again. I have Kobe top 10 all-time. How can you not choose the player who put up better stats against tougher compe ion in the playoffs? Wade had better all around stats (averaged more assists, rebounds, and steals) in the '06 regular season than Kobe and outperformed Kobe in the playoffs enroute to the le. What argument can be made that Kobe was better than Wade in '06? He scored 81 points? He outscored the Dallas Mavericks in 3 quarters? Smush was on his team?

I admit, '07 is up in the air. Dirk was the MVP, had a higher PER, but Kobe had to carry more weight for his team. Lebron was fantastic in the playoffs until the Finals. Duncan was quietly dominant in the playoffs with a 27 PER (yeah, yeah, I know you hate PER). But since Kobe was on a bad team and lost in the 1st round, we'll never know his true ceiling (or floor) for that year. I'll concede Kobe was the best regular season player, but we have no idea if he would've excelled or floundered in the later rounds.

Something all these players that you keep referencing will tell you is your defining moments come in the post-season. It might be unfair, but it's the way it's always worked. And I can't tell you how many times I've seen players have all-time great regular seasons only to themselves in the playoffs. To just hand Kobe "best player in the league" le without a deep playoff run is unfair to those players who author a deep run.
