Those s dont have Vazquez who killed us in 2011 tbh.
Those s dont have Vazquez who killed us in 2011 tbh.
you are seriously standing by that? downgrade from a one-armed manu?
2011 Manu missed a game.
Once again, it's ESPN people. What do you expect?![]()
Normally I like to give everybody a chance when they pick another team over the Spurs but we haven't improved? Seriously brah, we actually have but I don't deny that the Grizzlies haven't improved, they have as well and will still be a challenge but not like back in 2011 though.
How did Memphis get better by subtracting OJ Mayo, Sam Young and Rudy Gay?
Splitter , Neal and Anderson were rookies. Blair and Green were in their second year. G Hill was young and inexperienced at the point. Steve Novack 3pt shot was not used properly. Manu was hurt that series
Mills, NDC, Diaw, COJO and Kawahi are now on the team and add depth. Richard Jefferson is gone.
We got this
Oh really, the spurs have gotten better???? Neal and Splitter are less of a productive this postseason, Bonner is getting meaningful minutes, Ginobili is underperforming moreso this postsason than last and Parker's been inconsistent all playoffs long. The Spurs played a broken down Lakers team without Kobe and Nash and tackled a GS team with a hobbled Curry and Lee. The similarities between this year and last are uncanny. If the Spurs don't step up their game in a big way, they'll lose in the WCF's again like they did last year. I don't even know who the kevin Blackstone is, but he's not that far off base. Maybe you should have done some research.
I partially agree with that guy.
Outside of getting Leonard, this team hasn't made a significant move.
They've not made any significant moves that would propel them to advanced further than WCF for the past 3 years.
The team itself hasn't improved, some Spurs players have but their improvement is not so dramatic that it would make the Spurs any better than they were last year.
With that said, Memphis really hasn't improved their team either.
Defensively the two teams are vastly different. The 2011 spurs were the worst defensive team since Duncan joined the team 16 years ago. In fact a productive and healthy Duncan, improved Splitter, Green, and Leonard alone are head and shoulders above what the Spurs trotted out in 2011.
I think Memphis is playing better as well. Losing some chuckers have made them play more as a team, and their chemistry and defense is top notch right now. They can still have problems scoring at times, but I think Conley is underrated.
Spurs must have role players step up this series. I think Baynes might see action here and there and should be told to just bang and rebound. It is going to be a real challenge, a step up from Golden St.... I don't think Pop and SA has forgotten how to play ugly ball....it is still in their DNA.
That one armed is over exaggerated. Manu shot .448 fg% .338 % 3 pt% and averaged 14.4 points a game against Memphis in 2011 playoffs
Manu shot .342 fg% .275 3PT% 12.7 points a game against Golden State
So manu played better with the one arm in 2011 then he just did against Golden State

Shudder.
Bad memories.
spurs are 10x better than 2011... Tony has been an MVP candidate all year.. and dont forget my boy KAWHI LEONARD
dont you guys forget Sam Young too he had big shots against the spurs i think he hit like 70% of his shots that series all the open mid range jumper he all made it pretty much
Vasquez too but he wasnt that much of a factor
Old-fashioned hoops aplenty expected in Grizz-Spurs series
FIVE QUICK QUESTIONS (AND ANSWERS)
1. Can Conley and Allen slow down Parker?
They couldn't in the regular season. Parker was dynamite against the Grizzlies in four regular-season games, averaging 25.5 ppg on 36-for-71 shooting (50.7 percent) and 6.5 assists. Conley and Allen didn't have to worry about Russell Westbrook in the last series, but both are now officially on notice.
2. What kind of impact can Memphis expect from Prince?
It is interesting that the Grizzlies can say they've improved since the Gay trade. Prince brings a team-oriented work ethic and solid defense, although his offensive game has been ragged in the playoffs. He scored a total of 31 points on 13-for-44 shooting against the Thunder, but maybe much of that can be attributed to being matched up against Durant. He'll have it tough again at both ends of the court against terrific Spurs youngster Kawhi Leonard.
3. What's up with Manu?
It's probably never necessary to worry about Ginobili. He's always going to show up giving his all. Whether that translates to big games is another story. He buried the game-winning 3-pointer in Game 1 vs. Golden State, but otherwise shot terribly. He finished the semifinals averaging 12.7 ppg on 34.2 shooting and 27.5 percent from 3-point range. Even his free throw shooting has suffered (65 percent). His minutes, though, ramped up from 19.5 in the first round to 29.7 in the semis. Getting open looks would seem to only get more difficult against Memphis, but Ginobili is a wily veteran and his contributions often transcend statistics.
4. Do the Grizzlies have enough 3-point shooting to hang with the Spurs?
They certainly wouldn't figure to match the Spurs in this category, but it is important to at least make the Spurs guard the 3-point line. Conley is improved from this area, but the two key names are reserves Jerryd Bayless and Quincy Pondexter. Bayless can be streaky and Pondexter loves to set up for the corner 3.
5. Can the Spurs match Memphis' physical play?
Can anyone? Two years ago when the Grizzlies sent the Spurs packing in the first round, San Antonio simply couldn't muscle up. But back then, Duncan played with a bum ankle and Splitter was a rookie finding his way. Duncan is in phenomenal shape and Splitter boasts a big, strong body that is also playoff-tested. Would the Spurs prefer more of a finesse series? Absolutely. But if they want to advance, they're going to have to -- ahem -- grit and grind.

I'm unsure how Blackstone has a job.
Bayless has scorched the spurs in past blazer outings IIRC. If I was Pop I would go with strictly Cory J and no Neal. Also mostly Diaw but I would sprinkle in some Bonner when Arthur is in the game just to see if the red rocket is hot.
Affirmative Action tbh.
I don't think those are bad ideas. Since Memphis plays two points a lot, the Spurs can more than get away with Joseph as the two. Arthur did beat Bonner really badly in 2011, though, so I'd be hesitant to trust him even for a short period of time.
Nah, that's Jamele Hill.
Y'all spelled Stephen A smith wrong
Spurstalk would be a lot better if people didn't post threads on opinions of people who hardly watch the Spurs.
