When you compare the NBA to the 80's and 90's, it's just depressing to watch today's brand of NBA basketball. The Europeans have brought over their soccer flop bull and it's spread like a plague. Even athletic guys like Tony Allen, who you'd think would be above it, have resulted in flopping to win games. It ruins basic basketball strategy. Guys like Shane Battier can shut down every post player in the NBA by simply falling down every time a 7 footer tries to post up on him. Where's the ing fun in that? What happened to just being a man and bodying up with the other guy? Why do you think the Heat hardly ever get burned by guys in the post? In the past, you would actually have to go big/small to match up with the other team, like a chess match. Now, you can just throw a bunch of undersized guys out there who can just flop everytime there's contact on defense.

Naturally, with the flopping, the rest of the NBA becomes pussified. Hard fouls result in suspensions, and I haven't seen a real NBA brawl since the Malace at the Palace. Like MJ said, there's only a handful of players right now that would survive in the 90's. The Bad Boy Pistons used to elbow guys in the face for going in the paint then shove them down just for fun after. Now, that would result in lethal injection. I truly think your average all star in the 80's/90's would be the best player in the NBA right now. Part of the reason people think LBJ is the most gifted athlete they've ever seen is because he's allowed to just n!gger his way to the basket with no threat of serious bodily harm. If guys like Scottie Pippen ever had that luxury he'd be just as dominant.

    Thank Vlade.

(although Laimbeer was arguably the first NBA player to elevate flopping to an "art form.")

Flopping is actually a skill if you think about it, people just don't flop when everything is going their way, they flop in key situations and when they see their team not progressing they decide and flop to turn things around, of course flopping at times when the progression of the game is flowing your way is a move in every sense of the word, but what Allen did yesterday was smart, Manu clearly pulled Allen's and Allen made his body loose so he could make an argument for a flagrant foul, it was risky but at the time they ended up winning the game because of that, how about your NBA actually hires competent referees? You can't really blame the referee and neither can you blame Allen, he perfectly sold that Flagrant foul to perfection, it just sucks when your party is not favored by this I know, but flopping is a valuable component to every sport.

Yes of course, but so is every other athlete that has this craft to perfection, Nash would be the prime example, they know when to flop, that's the key, I don't hate flopping, I just hate the people that don't know when to flop.

Maybe we could also kick out the blacks and go back to the gloryhole days of the Minneapolis Lakers where league leader in FG% was a 40% shooter.

    Allow me to retort.

Flopping is not at all a Euro player phenom. NBA players flop because it works. Not because they are copying someone. You are just showing your anti Euro bias when you blame them for it. (This is probably bias for playground type basketball over real basketball with team play and winning as the goal)

That said, flopping is significantly down in the NBA with the new rules. And in the Euro leagues, it's down too with their version of the rules, it's a technical foul.

Then you launch into lamenting the flagrant foul rules as they are implemented today. Dude, give up on that. The NBA is a politically correct league if nothing else. They do not want goons and fights. Thy do not want players knocking each other down. Offensive fouls and hand checking rules are here to stay. Ejections and suspensions for blows to the head and shoving after the whistle blows and throwing air punches are here to stay. If you grab someone in the air and they go down sideways, you're going to get a flagrant 1.

They worked hard over the last 10-15 years to eliminate all that. They've seen their sport become much more attractive and generate much more revenue. Why would they go back? So a tough guy poser like you can get his rocks off watching someone get smacked and laid out? This ain't hockey, and it doesn't want to be.

I'm not a geographer but I'm pretty sure Manu, C. Paul, D. Fisher, T. Allen or S. Battier are not Euros...

And if you want to watch a 100% US sport, you can go NFL (elsewhere known as the boring version of Rugby)

flopping ain't an european patent imho. in fact if you watch european league you would've noticed that most notorious floppers are indeed from south america more often than not. im neither european nor american so im able to talk about it from an objective perspective.

plus if you keep all foreigners out of NBA, it would be cruel to imagine what a ty team them mavs would've been

Flopping is a skill just like cheating is a skill in poker. It's not intended to be part of the game, but if you do it well and don't get caught you can win more often. Hey then cheating is a valuable skill.

No, play the game, if you get fouled and it's not called, put the wood to the dude at the other end. All the pussy talk about "you have to flop else you won't get the call" is bull .

the Europeans definitely brought over the flopping at ude, with Vlade leading the way. Europeans brought smarter play and more fluidity to the game, but they also brought over the white man's trickery. You see it all the time in soccer obviously.

Now we got monkeyballers getting in on the act when they could rely on athleticism before. Unfortunately blacks aren't as good at acting, with Tony Allen showcasing the Tyler Perry goods, so their flops won't be as convincing. still I wish it was taken out of the game, I thought Stern was going to take care of it but should've figured they would use it against players with non-preferred status.

Last time i checked Argentina is in a continent with the word America.
and Euro basketball has better flopping rules than NBA. Technical foul, 2 free throws and the possession back.
