Not a spurs hater at all IMO
and spurs proceeded to get swept after that

Funny columist but with any basketball knowledge = no. They did hire Lowe who is 100x better for the same site who admires the Spurs so perhaps it is just he is still bitter Duncan did not go to Boston....

Simmons pretty accurately described fans of any team in any sport. Thinking the whole world is against your team is a pretty common sentiment, as people in general are insecure. The fact that he said this about the Spurs, and not any of the other teams when it is equally applicable, fuels the fire of those who feel that way.

I am one of the biggest Spurs fans since 1989 and I actually like Bill Simmons a lot. He's a homer for Boston sports but grew up going to Celtics games with his dad so it's understandable. A majority of his articles and books are always good reads... good sense of humor combined with basketball knowledge. He's basically just a small dude that grew up as a basketball junkie and now gets paid to continue to be a basketball junkie, I am kind of jealous tbh.

all that "boring" stuff is actually true.
    From 1998-2007, I feel you.

From 2007-2013, I can't think of a comment that rings more false. Spurs play at one of the fastest paces in the league. That's the opposite of boring.

I don't mind him writing books and radio shows whatever. but commentating at halftime and doing post game analysis is ing re ed. He knows nothing about the game and proves it everytime he opens his mouth.

Yeah.. especially in game 1 when they were on air and he had no idea. Doesn't make sense how he sees co hosts discussing and looking at each other yet he just keeps fixing his shirt and tie.

I'd probably agree that the spurs were boring pre-Manu but after Manu got decent minutes, he provided highlights. I still don't get the "boring tag" at all.

    Why doesn't ESPN like us?
Since 08, ESPN trolls every fan base except for the team Lebron is one(Cavs, or Heat). Even as a Laker fan, I can remember so many times they would constantly on a weekly basis have a new article up by Henry Abbott, Bill Simmons, or Arash Markazi about how Kobe is statistically not as good as Carmelo Anthony and is overrated. That boiled Laker fans, this was at a time Kobe was leading his team to the finals and winning championships.

Even after winning, they were talking about statistically he wasn't as good as Lebron was in the finals in 2007. It was a constant comparison and bashing of Kobe Bryant against Lebron and MJ. It's well known that the base of ESPN is on the East Coast, with the majority of them being homer fans for Celtics and Lebron for some odd reason.

Bill Simmons is butthurt because he made yet another awful prediction picking against the Spurs and people are calling him out on being dead wrong yet again and for refusing to admit it. . .but rather keep making excuses for it.

He's just trying to deflect his ignorant picks and lack of knowledge of the Spurs and turn it around to attack Spurfans being upset about his picks. . .as if they're the ones who made two straight awful predictions concerning that team.

He clearly did not watch much NBA this year. And I'm pretty sure of that because most of his opinions about the NBA from years ago are sound imo, but his opinions and predictions for this season are pretty awful. He obviously skipped most of this season, and probably last season too besides "hot teams" like OKC, Heat, and Lakers. His Spurs' knowledge in particular is obviously very ty.

    "ESPN hates Kirby so much!"

Never mind all the time and energy they've put into perpetuating the "Kirby is clutch" and "Kirby is a warrior" myths, or the fact that 90% of SportsCenter during the NBA season is devoted to the Lakers....

The point is that they arent just out to get the Spurs. They troll every fan base. The overall message is, they know "irk the fan base" news makes more attention and gets them paid better, than "make the fan base feel good about themselves" news.

disagree. ESPN's main goal is to grab the attention of average ignorant fat sports fan. They show the highlights, dunks and ride monkeyballing teams like the Clippers and Thunder. Of course Lebron is their #1 product. And they occasionally ride the big market teams like Boston, NY and LA. That's about it. Their editors have already concluded that Spurs are bad bad news for ratings. Some announcers have already publicly admitted the ESPN inner family secretly roots for whoever the Spurs play and wants them out. They detest talking about them.

furthermore, it's understandable. Who wants to watch 48 minutes of the same play over and over. That's what the Spurs do. It's all understandable except ESPN should be a litle more professional, nonbiased about it, at least try to act like a neutral news org

Simmons is 100% right. He actually knows a lot more about basketball than any of the other non-player "experts" ESPN hires to talk out of their ass, and praises Duncan and the Spurs all the time in his writing. But Spur fan just sees him pick the Warriors and the Grizzlies and think he hates the Spurs, or doesn't know , when he actually does.

Other half of the problem is Spur fan is a gigantic oversensitive 16 year old girl constantly getting her panties in a wad over whether or not the cute boys in school like her.

I never read much of Simmons work as a journalist, but he is terrible on the air.

The Warriors pick was re ed, I dont see how calling that out as being re ed=being butthurt by spurfan. A smart basketball fan/analyst doesnt take the Warriors in a 7 game series. He also used weak like Currys hobbled ankle, Lee out, and Barnes injury played a role in deciding the series...even though the Spurs had Tiago and Parker injured as well. His comment of 'you dont comeback from 2-0 vs SA...' yesterday also bothers me, for someone thats supposedly a great journalist and makes a living by talking basketball how does he forget last years WCF ?

Don't get the Simmons hate from Spursfans, honestly. He was one of the few "journalists" back in the day to really gush over Duncan. When the KG vs. Duncan debate was raging in the mid-00s, he was the only talking head I can remember who trumpeted Duncan's superiority, using none of the "supporting cast" excuses that KG fans often resorted to.

So what he didn't pick the Spurs.? They didn't look as strong as Memphis going into this series. He had good reason.
In his last podcast he went on a LONG harangue about Duncan was better than Kobe and how it bothered him that more people didn't see this..

Spurs fans, at least the ones on this board, are extremely insecure. Almost every week somebody posts a thread ing about ESPN or some commentator. Reading game blogs is hilarious too, because Spurs fans are so sensitive to announcers saying anything nice/positive about the other team.

That's not it though. I respect most of Simmons' opinions, but the "facts" he's been using when speaking about the Spurs recently have been terrible and mostly irrelevant. He's been a classic case of looking for facts to suit theories rather than making a theory to suit the facts.

Simmons was positive the Spurs would lose to the Warriors after game 1, and he was wrong. . .so he made a bunch of excuses for why he was wrong. Then he picks the Grizzlies in 6. ..and they get blown out in game 1. So instead of admit he was wrong, he continues to ride his pick (again) rather than admit he was wrong. . .again.

On top of that, if you listen to his reasoning of why he thought each team would beat the Spurs, it isn't sound. It's like typical ESPN logic (oh oh, last year against the Thunder! Hurr durr, 2 years ago um!, yeah!). Basically just looking at a piece of paper with outcomes of their last 2 elimination series and devising his entire opinion around JUST that, then filling airspace with what he likes about the Grizzlies/Warriors.

In other words, he had basically barely any logical grounds for his pick, or sticking to it. And unlike the other ESPN talking heads, never admits he was wrong. He makes excuses for why the team he picked lost. That's why Spurs fans are talking about him. Not that he picked against them. Sorry for the long read, but I felt like explaining why Simmons is actually just being a dip here, and is not correct at all. He's just deflecting to take attention away from his terrible and clearly wrong opinions about the Spurs this year.

i could care less if Simmons or anyone picks against the Spurs. I like the underdog status tbh. it's just Simmons is becoming increasingly butthurt about how bad his picks have been. He keeps making more excuses, plus last night after Grizzlies dropped an important game in OT, he was like "you get the sense that Grizzlies are boxers just figuring everything out " or some bull . Simmons appears to have a DeadlyDynastyesque gambling problem, so it could be more than a loss of pride for his ty logic.
